Part two of our Westival sponsors post! Again, Westival wouldn't be the event it is without the support of:

Wessex 4x4 Response, for returning in 2026 to marshal our event parking. Their wonderful team of volunteers made a huge difference last year, running a tight ship and maximising the space available. This organisation provides voluntary logistics support to the emergency service, NHS and local authorities, and are always on hand to help with challenging incidents.

Abacus Vehicle Hire, who are kindly supplying us with a curtainside truck to use as our main stage! Based on Ferndown Industrial Estate, Abacus has a huge selection of high quality and affordable vehicles to hire, and make the whole hiring process as easy as pie.

Tec Check Ltd, who support us every year by giving a donation towards Westival but also by providing us technical support and advice in the office! Dan's friendly and knowledgable service is unmatched.

Flooring Elegance, who are also long-time supporters of Westival and long-time suppliers of high-quality flooring. Their showroom is on Station Road, so pop in to view their huge range of options and inspiration.

By January 2027, the UK's old copper phone network will be switched off, area by area. For most residents it is straightforward, but for older or vulnerable people, particularly those with telecare alarms, pendant alarms, or no mobile phone, it can be confusing and potentially risky if they are not prepared in time.

We're sharing a free resource from Phonely which you can use to help friends, neighbours or family members who may need a little extra help ahead of the switch. If you'd like a printable copy, please contact the office.

We’ve been busy planning lots of exciting things for Westival on Saturday 11th July, made possible thanks to the generous support of this year’s sponsors!

In the first of our two-part thank-you posts, we’re celebrating four fantastic local businesses whose support helps keep Westival free to enter and full of entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

Phoenix Marble & Granite are our biggest sponsor every year, helping us bring many of the acts and attractions you love to Westival! Based on Collingwood Road, their highly skilled team of stonemasons can create everything from small memorial tablets to full-sized war memorials, including the beautiful example pictured below.

Brewer and Brewer are our local property experts and are well known for their generosity and community spirit. Alongside supporting many local events, they kindly sponsor Westival each year by covering our publicity costs, helping make sure everyone knows what’s happening and when!

Brook View Care Home on Riverside Road provides first-class residential and nursing care in a beautiful setting. Their friendly team regularly hosts events for residents and the wider community, and Colten Care are kindly sponsoring Westival for the second year running.

The Elephant & Castle are a brand-new sponsor for Westival this year! This welcoming pub offers a great range of drinks and pub food, a popular Sunday carvery, and Toast & Tea for just 99p every Tuesday from 10am. They’re always quick to support community events, and we’re very grateful for their contribution this year.

Keep an eye out next week as we thank the rest of our wonderful sponsors!

We have been informed that a large transforrmer (used to convert the voltage of electricity so that it can safely be supplied to homes and businesses) will be travelling from Poole Harbour to Mannington Substation this coming Saturday 23rd May.

Delivery is expected in the late afternoon, with a slow-moving transporter vehicle travelling along the A35, onto Gravel Hill, east onto the A31, north on Ringwood Road and west along Horton Road.

Please be aware if you're travelling in the area on Saturday, as there will be some rolling road closures on the route.

As part of Dementia Action Week, the West Moors Dementia Action Group will be pitching a gazebo near West Moors Village Surgery on Station Road this Tuesday and Thursday between 10am and 12pm. They aim to promote awareness of dementia and memory loss, and friendly volunteers will be ready to talk and offer information, support or signposting to anyone who needs it.

Following last winter’s flooding, Dorset Council is taking action with a £9.25 million programme of recovery and improvements to support affected communities and prepare for more extreme weather in the future.

This includes £250,000 for extra gully and drain clearing, major repair works across Dorset, and £456,000 of investment in locations including Cerne Abbas and Godmanstone.

Are you an individual or community group with a talent for organising events and bringing people together? Do you enjoy creating memorable community occasions while helping raise valuable funds for local causes?

The West Moors Youth Club committee can no longer undertake the organisation of Carols on the Petwyn in December. If you'd enjoy the challenge of running this much-loved community event, please get in touch with West Moors Youth Club.

The results of our Spring Photography Competition are in! Cllrs Burke and Holmes found it very difficult to select their top choices from the wonderful array of photographs submitted in March and April, but we can now announce their winners:

🥇 First Place: Colin Perry's shot of the War Memorial on the Petwyn, surrounded by the signs of Spring.
🥈 Second Place: Ros Betts' stunning capture of a gnarly oak tree leafing-out in Pennington Copse.
🥉 Third Place: Margaret Holden's view inside West Moors Memorial Bowls Club - the judges enjoyed the different subject matter, of residents enjoying their hobby on a beautiful Spring day.

🏅 A very special mention also has to go to Rob Laker for his perfect up-close photo of a peacock butterfly on a bluebell. While the judges felt the photo wasn't notably 'West Moors', they couldn't fault the talent in this breathtaking image.
