Quebec House NT

Quebec House NT National Trust property displaying the childhood home of General James Wolfe, victor of the Battle of Quebec (1759). It helps us to learn and grow.

Small but charming, this house has big stories to share. Quebec House is the childhood home of the hero General James Wolfe, the victor of the Battle of Quebec in 1759. It gives a glimpse into family life in the 1730's and you can now have a go at some of the pastimes Wolfe and his family would have enjoyed. These include writing with a quill, watching re-enactors on selected days and children hav

e the chance to complete an activity trail. Our Georgian kitchen allows us to recreate some of the food General Wolfe would have eaten as a boy, including lemon drops and potato pudding. Mrs Wolfe's unique recipe book is available in the coach house to buy. In our exhibition above the coach house you can relive the dramatic battle that won America but tragically ended in General Wolfe's death. This is the place where you can really travel back in time. Be sure to check our events on our page and on our website so you make the most of your experience at Quebec House!

20 May is World Bee Day!

Have you seen this bee bole?
Found on the south-facing wall of the Coach House at Quebec House, this wicker and straw copy of a bee skep is housed in a bee bole.
This would have given protection from wind and rain and allowed sunshine to warm the bee hives.

There is evidence in the cellars of winter storage boles where the bees could be kept at an even temperature and dry during bad weather.
Placing the bee skep outside in the early spring sunshine would have encouraged the bees to start collecting nectar.

The bees helped to pollinate the garden and produce honey.
