Weston General Hospital

Weston General Hospital University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust is a dynamic and thriving group of hospitals in the heart of Bristol and Weston-super-Mare.

This page is monitored Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. We're a small, friendly, patient-focused NHS General Hospital, with over 2,000 staff who help us deliver a range of excellent clinical services both on-site and in partnership with larger hospitals across Bristol and Somerset. We provide acute and rehabilitation hospital services, and some community health services, to residents of the North Som

erset area – a population of around 212,000 people. Our services include Orthopaedics, a midwife run maternity unit, an Oncology Day Unit, Cardiology, WISH sexual health clinic, day surgery, general surgery and a 24-hour Emergency Department. We also have a Community Paediatric Service, run from two centres in the north and south of our catchment area, and our Seashore Centre for Children and Young People hosts out-patient clinics and has a ten-bed day care ward. A Child and Adolescent Mental Health service is also run by the Trust. We also provide specialist support for elderly patients such as a dementia cafe and stroke services. We provide care to the people of Weston and North Somerset from the very beginning of their life to its later stages. Our patients' well-being is at the heart of everything we do. A clean environment and good facilities are as important to patients in the hospital as their clinical care. We've won national awards for our cleanliness and our food is consistently voted among the best in the region. We cater for all lifestyle and religious dietary requirements and we offer vegetarian, halal, kosher and gluten free options. Our in-patients also benefit from free Wi-Fi and can bring smartphones and other devices with them into the hospital. Patients can also listen to in-house entertainment from our award winning Sunshine radio station. We offer a full chaplaincy service for people of all faiths and we are also able to provide private facilities for our patients through The Waterside Suite where all profits go back into the hospital. As the nation comes together today to mark , we would like to take this moment to say Thank You to everyone who has helped us over the last few months.

There has never been a more important time to recognise the fantastic dedication of our exceptional staff, who go above and beyond every single day in the care they provide.

But we’re not in this alone. We’d also like to thank all the keyworkers across the country for keeping us going. Thank you to the volunteers and local community who have given up their time to help feed, donate and offer support to our staff. And the public too, who embraced the lockdown measures to help protect us all.

Updated visitor guidance (22 June 2020)

New national guidance on visiting patients in hospital was published on Friday 5 June. We have updated our visiting policies from Monday 22 June 2020 in line with these new guidelines while ensuring we continue to maintain the safety of our patients, visitors and staff.

Full details of these changes can be found on our website https://www.uhbw.nhs.uk/p/which-hospital-do-you-need/coronavirus-covid-19

Please note that all visitors must wear a mask or face covering at all times.

The visiting guidance for adult inpatients now permits one nominated family member or friend to visit daily, during our allocated visiting hours. Nominated visitors will be given a letter that will enable them access to our hospitals which will need to be presented on every visit. You may be asked to agree a visiting time slot with the ward team; this is to ensure there are only a limited number of visitors on the ward at any one time.

If you are in attendance to support the needs of a patient as a familiar carer/supporter/personal assistant you will not be counted as an additional visitor.

Visiting guidance for our children’s hospital, maternity services and neonatal unit remain unchanged; further details are on our website.

We will continue to keep this guidance under careful review. We want to thank all our patients and visitors for your continued support and understanding.

Thank you.

We’d like to say thank you to everyone involved in the re-opening of Weston General Hospital, for their hard work, dedication and patience.

Dr William Oldfield, UHBW medical director, said: “The re-opening to new patients has only been possible thanks to our fantastic, committed and hard-working staff who have done an exceptional job in challenging circumstances.

“We’re also incredibly grateful to our partner organisations, who have supported us and ensured patients have continued to have access to the care or treatment they need whilst the temporarily closure has been in place.

“We would like to thank our patients, their families and carers and our local community for their patience and understanding as we have worked to re-open their hospital.”
