Learn more about our project to restore Birnbeck Pier and the important history and heritage of this Grade II* Listed structure as the project team and those involved get ready to host a programme of free events π
Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of heritage and culture, held each September.
The Birnbeck Pier events will be taking place between Friday 11 and Sunday 20 September - please note some sessions must be booked in advance, you'll find the booking links in the comments π
π Tuesday 15 September, 2.30pm to 3.30pm - 'Birnbeck Pier: past, present and future' - a free talk at Weston Museum. Limited tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis so pre-booking is essential.
π Wednesday 16 September, 7pm to 8pm - 'Meet the Contractor' - if youβre interested in learning more about the technical side of the restoration project, this is another chance to hear from our two principal contractors Mackley (pier structure) and Smith and Brenson (landside buildings). Taking place at The Blakehay Theatre, limited tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis so pre-booking is essential.
π Thursday 17 September, 2.30pm to 3.30pm - 'HMS Birnbeck' - learn how the pier became HMS Birnbeck during the Second World War as it was taken over by the Admiralty and used as a secret base for weapons testing in a free talk by historian Phil Curme. Taking place at Weston Museum. Limited tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-booking is essential.
π Friday 18, Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September β 'Cardboard Pier build Workshops' - join a free fun workshop to help make the building blocks for the βcardboard pierβ art installation which will be created in Prince Consort Gardens the following week by world-renowned visual artist Olivier GrossetΓͺte. Morning, afternoon and evening sessions are available, all taking place in the former Wilkos store in The Sovereign. Pre-booking is essential - please email Super Culture at [email protected]
π Saturday 19 September, 11am to 3pm β come and meet the volunteers and team working to restore the Grade II* Listed pier. They'll be on the promenade next to the pier. No need to book for this one - just turn up!
