🛡️Sexual Abuse Prevention

• Teach children that their body belongs to them.

• Help them understand boundaries and that they can say no.

• Teach them that unsafe behaviour can come from someone they know.

•Take concerns seriously and listen without judgement.

• Encourage open conversations so they know they can speak up.

• Know the warning signs of grooming and inappropriate behaviour.

Remember, the person who caused harm is always held accountable not the survivor.

📣 Today, Wednesday 5 August, North Somerset Council's Safer Communities team is joined by the Weston Town Centre Neighbourhood Policing Team and Cranstoun at the Weston Independent Market to raise awareness about the realities of domestic abuse and the support available to help people affected by it.

The Ministry of Justice has announced changes affecting R**e and certain child s*xual offence cases, alongside additional support for survivors.

It’s important that survivors know about changes to the justice system and the support available to them. Whatever your views on sentencing policy, ensuring survivors are heard and supported should always remain a priority.

New rules will block r**e and certain child s*x offences from sentencing reforms.

The changes will also:
🔵 Launch a dedicated helpline for victims to receive greater help and support
🔵 Boost funding for local victim services.
🔵 Introduce the biggest expansion in a generation of electronic monitoring for offenders once released

Without action prisons could run out of space entirely as early as November.

This means we would have no cells for dangerous offenders, police would be unable to make arrests, and the entire criminal justice system would collapse.

We're taking decisive action to keep communities safe, support victims, and make sure the justice system has the capacity it needs.
