Please continue to follow the advice from Avon Fire & Rescue Service.

Take care, stay safe and keep your windows & doors closed.

Update 5:45pm

Firefighters have now left the scene and the local roads have reopened.

Thank you for your patience while we dealt with this incident.

You may see firefighters attending the scene this evening and into the night, this is to check for any hotspots or reignition to ensure the fire is contained.

===========================================

Update: 2:20pm

We're reducing our presence at the scene but some fire crews will remain at the incident throughout today and into this evening to dampen down and ensure the site remains safe.

The A371 will remain closed for much of the rest of today between the Asda Petrol Station on Elm Tree Road and Locking Farm Industrial Estate.

The section of the A371 between Banwell Road and Apprentice Way is now open and operating as normal.

===========================================

Update 12:00pm
Firefighters are still on the scene dampening down any remaining hotspots. We have started to scale back our resources significantly, and we will still remain a presence until the scene is completely safe.

The A371 is still closed and is expected to remain closed for the next couple of hours. So please use alternative routes.
Local residents should continue to keep windows and doors closed, and please avoid the area if possible.

Thank you to local residents and everyone for your patience and support while the incident is still ongoing.
===========================================
Update 10:00am

We still have a large presence of fire crews on the scene.

They are currently identifying and addressing hotspots and continuing to dampen down the area.

===============================
Update: 06:40am

The A371 remains closed from The Runway to Banwell Road as crews continue to bring the grass fire near Locking under control.

Diversions are in place, and we are asking people to minimise travel in the area where possible and plan ahead.

Firefighters will remain on scene for some time as they identify and deal with hotspots and continue damping down.

Smoke is still affecting the area. Local residents should continue to keep windows and doors closed to prevent smoke from entering homes or businesses.

================================

This is an absolutely awful look for Labour.

An MP steps aside in Makerfield to allow Andy Burnham to take the seat, and then is reportedly lined up for a £180,000-a-year job. You can dress it up however you like, but to ordinary people this looks incredibly suspicious.

It leaves one simple question: what on earth is going on behind closed doors?

What makes it worse is the apparent willingness to hand out highly paid public positions to political figures and those tipped as potential Labour leadership candidates.

Politics should be about serving the public, not serving each other.

People are struggling with the cost of living and being hammered by taxes, while politicians appear to be looking after their own.

That is exactly why trust in politics is so badly damaged. The public deserve better.

Its been a busy weekend, with Will and our volunteers out and about talking to locals.

As we get closer to the election, we'll be out talking to as many of you as we can.

We also have regular coffee mornings for a more informal setting, where we get together for a couple of hours just to socialise. If you are interested in popping along just keep an eye out on our socials for upcoming dates. Or if you wish to become a member and volunteer reach out and we will be happy to assist.

Fantastic weather to be back out on the doors again, speaking to residents!

Well done Nigel! The message to the uniparty and establishment has been sent, if its received is another matter.

Today is the day we remember Ann Widdecombe.

Ann was an extraordinary woman who left a serious mark on British politics.

She will be sorely missed. Rest in peace, Ann.
