'Guardians of the Old Town Hall' is a not for profit Community Interest Company that was set up by local people to save the 17th Century grade II listed Old Town Hall from being into sold private hands, to renovate it & develop a heritage centre. A 30 year lease was agreed with Weymouth & Portland Council on condition that the group renovate the building and then for it to be developed as a Herita
ge Centre (upstairs) with a focus on the significant and dramatic Civil War Battle that took place nearby (& we intend to remember the 'original' old High Street too - the Old Town Hall & the Boot Inn being the last two buildings remaining) and an exhibition, performance & meeting space for arts and community use (downstairs). Costs for renovation materials and utilities have come through donations, fund-raising events, hall hire and some sponsorship & materials coming from local businesses and community groups. The project receives no grant funding.
