A great idea from Litter Free Dorset…

Could your business benefit from a cigarette butt bin? 🚬

As part of our project, we’re working with pubs, cafes and restaurants in Weymouth town centre to help tackle cigarette litter by installing cigarette butt bins outside participating businesses.

Over the past few months, we’ve been trialling butt bins around the Weymouth Harbour, helping to reduce cigarette litter on surrounding pavements by 35%.

Thanks to the support of businesses and the success of the trial, we’re now expanding the scheme across the town centre.

✅The bin is provided free of charge. Participating businesses will be responsible for installing, emptying and maintaining the bin. Numbers are limited and bins will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Great to be a part of the protest this morning, against the wholly unnecessary Portland incinerator.

Also good to show a united front between local council leaders, with Nick Ireland, the Lib Dem Leader of Dorset Council.

Nick continues to lead excellent work in Dorset in opposition to the unwanted and needed incinerator here on the UNESCO World Heritage Site that is the Jurassic Coast. He continues to have my full support as leader of Weymouth Town Council.

Let’s us hope that the Environment Agency sees sense and finally throws out the application. If they will not act for our environment in Government then who will?!

Very happy to have supported Cllr Matt Bell on this amendment. By removing the default position of charging for our public toilets once they are refurbished, my hope is that we no longer inadvertently penalise the most disadvantaged and vulnerable in our town.
