An interesting article from about Sir Francis Drake and his circumnavigation of the World in the 16th Century. His "secret mission" has been suggested to have been trying to locate the Western end of the North West passage. His ship needed repairs before departing the area to cross the Pacific Ocean and returning to England.

in 1579, Sir Francis Drake and his crew landed on the Pacific coast of what is now Northern California during his famous circumnavigation of the globe.

Seeking a safe harbour to repair the Golden Hind, Drake anchored in a sheltered bay, believed to have been near modern-day Drake's Bay. During his stay, he claimed the surrounding territory for Queen Elizabeth I, naming it Nova Albion ("New Albion"), a reference to England's white cliffs.

The claim marked England's first territorial assertion on the west coast of North America and became an important moment in the history of English exploration.

in 1487, a ten-year-old boy named Lambert Simnel was crowned ‘King Edward VI’ in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin.

Backed by Yorkist supporters, Simnel was passed off as Edward, Earl of Warwick... despite the real Warwick being locked up in the Tower by Henry VII. The coronation was a bold move to challenge the new Tudor king’s shaky hold on the throne.
It all led to the Battle of Stoke Field...
