Wheathampstead Fire Station An on-call fire station in the village of Wheathampstead and part of Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Staffed by fire fighters who live and work in the village, dedicated to keeping their community safe. Wheathampstead Fire Station is crewed by paid members of the local community who are on call and respond to a pager when a 999 call comes in. These men and women do exactly the same job as a full time fire fighter but instead of being based on a fire station, they live or work within 4 minutes of

the fire station and are available at mutually convenient time to keep our fire engine "on the run". We are always looking for new members of the team so do pop down to the fire station on a Tuesday evening for an informal chat if you are interested. We'll pay you a retaining fee for carrying the pager and then we'll pay you £14.51 per hour once you've passed all your training and become a competent fire fighter. You don't need to be super fit and strong, but you'll need to pass a physical test and you'll need to have a basic maths and english understanding, as long as you're over 18 we'd love to hear from you. 🚒 Training Night at Hemel Hempstead Fire Station 🚒

This evening, firefighters from Wheathampstead Fire Station took part in a Breathing Apparatus training exercise in the Smoke House at Hemel Hempstead Fire Station.

The scenario involved a fire in a heavily cluttered property, simulating the challenges crews can face when responding to incidents in hoarded homes. These environments present unique risks, including restricted access and escape routes, increased fire loading, reduced visibility, and complex search and rescue conditions.

Crews practised wearing breathing apparatus while carrying out firefighting operations, casualty searches, team communications, and safe movement through confined and obstructed spaces. The realistic conditions within the Smoke House provided an excellent opportunity to develop and maintain operational skills in a controlled environment.

Training exercises like this help ensure our firefighters remain prepared for the wide variety of incidents they may encounter across Hertfordshire, enabling us to provide the safest and most effective response when our communities need us most.

A big thank you to the instructors and staff at Hemel Hempstead Fire Station for facilitating another valuable training session.

Next on the list is CC Dedman, Mark has been at Wheathampstead Fire Station for a
number of years attending multiple incidents as a firefighter and a crew commander. Mark works in London as a project manager and offers availability whenever he can! Mark has signed up to gain his HGV licence through the fire service. This is just one of the qualifications that can be offered to you when you are part of such a rewarding part time job.
