We love hearing the ideas and opinions of our social community, and encourage you to leave comments, photos, videos and links (‘content’) here on our page. However, in the interests of our whole community, by using this site you accept

We especially loved this picture of Penny and Copper racing up the 199 steps to get to the Abbey!

Bede was a monk, scholar, and well known author during the Middle Ages. His work, Ecclesiastical History of the English People, documented the Synod of Whitby and taught us all we know about the life of St Hild!

If you can brave the 199 steps, come and enjoy Whitby Abbey's spectacular seaside views this weekend!

And remember:

Free admission to Whitby Abbey only from Saturday 16 May to Sunday 17 May for Whitby residents. Valid at Whitby Abbey only (site closes at 5pm, last entry 4.30pm). Valid for walk-up only, cannot be booked in advance. Proof of residence must be shown on arrival (driving licence, council tax bill etc.). Postcodes included in the offer are YO21 and YO22 There is no cash alternative. Not valid on membership or in conjunction with any other offer. English Heritage retain the right to refuse or change the offer at any time. These terms and conditions will be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England.
