Bury Art Festival by Culture Bury takes place 10th-11th October in venues across the borough.

We'd encourage you to visit Whitefield Live Well Centre locally.

If you fancy a trip to Bury, we'd highly recommend visiting the Created With Care exhibition at The Met on Saturday from 10am to 4pm.

As councillors, we commit to being Corporate Parents to all looked-after children and young people in Bury. Bury New Road / Moss Lane / Pinfold Lane crossing🚦🚶‍♀️

We have repeatedly raised how difficult and unsafe it feels to cross at the Bury New Road/Moss Lane and Bury New Road/Pinfold Lane junctions with the council to push for a solution. This has also come up during the consultation on the Whitefield Town Centre Plan, where over 90% of you backed better crossing points on Bury New Road.

We're pleased to share that improvement works are now being looked into:
- Signal-controlled pedestrian crossings on every arm of the junction, for safer and more continuous routes on foot
- Kerb realignment
- Drainage improvements
- Full carriageway resurfacing

The scheme is being led by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), with Council officers supporting and checking that the design and construction meet our standards.

Once the design stage is complete, TfGM will lead on engaging with us and residents before any work starts. We’ll share updates as the project moves along.

So, what’s the point of the Whitefield Town Centre Plan? Well, it’s exactly this - a strategic approach to drive improvement in the area that is led by input from YOU, the resident.

Upcoming closure on M60 J17 to J18 ‼️

Please read the below post from National Highways for details. We have spoken to residents about the noise during the last closure throughout the night.

National Highways have told us they're considering the feedback received and have adjusted their schedule to complete the removal of the gantries to a more reasonable time.

⚠️ PLAN AHEAD: M60 Simister Island - second major weekend closure 10-12 October⚠️

Thank you for bearing with us this weekend as we completed the first set of gantry demolitions on the M60 as part of our major improvements at Simister Island.

🕰️The demolitions were completed and the road reopened before 10pm on Sunday 27 September — ahead of schedule.

We apologise for the disruption caused. Your patience genuinely helped us complete the work safely and as quickly as possible.

🚧NEXT WEEKEND CLOSURES - 10-12 October🚧
Please be prepared for our next weekend of full closures, which runs from Saturday 10 October to Monday 12 October.

We’ll be fully closing the M60 between junctions 17 and 18 to safely remove another set of gantries that have reached the end of their operational life

🏗️These will be replaced with new structures designed around the updated junction layout as part of our improvements at Simister Island:

• M60 anticlockwise (westbound): 10pm Saturday 10 Oct – 6am Monday 12 Oct
• M60 clockwise (eastbound): 11.59pm Saturday 10 Oct – 6am Monday 12 Oct

We appreciate this is a busy stretch of motorway and these closures are likely to lead to overnight noise, longer journeys and delays for people travelling through the area and for residents living close to the M60.

🚦 In addition, we have the following upcoming slip road closures (9pm-6am):
• Tue 6 Oct: M60 J17 clockwise exit slip
• Wed 7 Oct: M60 J17 anticlockwise exit slip
• Thu 8 Oct: M60 J17 clockwise entry slip
• Fri 9 Oct: M60 J17 anticlockwise exit slip

Over the last few month, many residents have told us about their concern of fly tipping and rubbish on the embankment off Moss Lane.

The area is fenced off and practically impossible to access unless climbing over the fence. After liaising with Bury Housing and Bury Council, a way to create access to the area for a clean up has been worked out!

Thanks for Besses Together, Whitefield Wombles and Bury Council for working together to organise the clean up.

Attention Hillock estate residents & Onward Homes tenants! 📢

We’ve heard your frustration loud and clear. From broken bin stores and contaminated bins to fly-tipping left sitting for weeks, the service provided by Onward Homes simply hasn't been good enough.

Despite promises made to your councillors, action has been far too slow. Failing to keep our estate clean impacts everyone’s quality of life - and we're standing together to demand better.

We're sending an open letter to Onward Homes demanding:

🗑️ Immediate repairs to broken bin stores and action on refuse issues
⏰ Faster action by reviewing their 20-working-day fly-tipping removal policy
🗣️ Clearer communication and transparency on actions taken to address these issues
📅 A public meeting where Onward present and consult on a clear neighbourhood plan.
🤝 A real commitment to listen to Hillock residents and reflect your voice in future plans.

We’ve been asking for the derelict garages off Victoria Square to be knocked down for a while now. Eyesores like these can become magnets for antisocial behaviour - and we want to avoid this.

We’re pleased that application for demolition of the garages has now been submitted! ✅

Cllr Lucy Smith has been out contacting local residents to get their thoughts on what should happen to the site 🗣️

We were at the Besses PACT meeting tonight to raise issues about speeding e-bikes, antisocial behaviour and parking.

🚨 The Police continue to encourage residents to report any non-emergency incidents or information via 101 and Crimestoppers.
