Haven't posted much in a while, but haven't been sitting on my hands either. Still researching service personnel for relatives, however, as the result of a research project I was recently involved in, I had the idea to expand the research, once again to tell the stories of men which otherwise may have been forgotten. So here it is, my first foray into the Second World War, ' The Merchant Seamen of Islandmagee in the Second World War.' Fascinating stories of brave men from a small penininsula in County Antrim who played a vital role in keeping the country supplied during the war. All civilians, the Merchant Navy suffered proportionately more fatalities than any branch of the armed services. Hopefully the book will bring the stories of these brave men to a wider audience.

This week we’re taking a trip back to a very special moment in our 77 year history.

Back in 1985, Larne Drama Circle took the very first amateur production of Christina Reid’s Tea in a China Cup out on the festival circuit. It won in Ballymoney and Bangor and went on to triumph at the Ulster Finals which took place in the Grand Opera House. The author herself came to see it.

On Thursday night over 30 of our members, including six of the cast and one crew member from that original amateur production are heading to the Lyric Belfast to see the play.

We’re very much looking forward to it! 🎭
