The brilliant Ellie Chowns MP laying out the facts on Rosebank and Jackdaw, and the future we face without a change of direction. New extraction in the North Sea will not lower our bills or create sustainable jobs and communities. Investment in clean energy will! 💚

Top work from our litter pick team in Whitley Bay yesterday! ♻️💚

Despite the typically inconsistent bank holiday weather, a group of local Green Party members met at Spanish City and took to the seafront to keep their community tidy. If you know of anywhere in North Tyneside that would benefit from a thorough sprucing up, let us know.

Members, if you’d like to take part in an upcoming litter pick, please do come along: there’s always a great team spirit and a sense of achievement, but do bring a waterproof. Watch your inbox and party platforms for updates on when and where! 🫵

We spoke to nurdle clean-up volunteer Jo about what’s next! 💚🌊

It’s been over a month since the spillage on the Tyne and Green Party members like Jo have made a daily difference. But as nurdle levels ebb and flow and contractor staffing levels are apparently reduced, the focus of many is turning towards the long-term management of the process, and ensuring that the council and responsible agencies play their part consistently and collaboratively.

Our coastline still needs our help, particularly at hotspots around the mouth of the river. Head to the Nurdle Hub (link in comments) for more guidance! 💪📢

Don’t miss our next Green Social this Thursday! 💚👋

We’ve got a room booked (just along the corridor to the right) at King Street Social Club in North Shields, from 7pm to 9pm.

Our regular get-togethers hop between venues across the borough, taking place on the last Thursday of the month. It’s a great way to meet fellow Green Party members, have a bit of a moan about the state of the world, swap stories about that persistent hope for better, and otherwise have a lovely evening. We’re a friendly bunch.

See you there? 🫵

Helen and Martin have been hard at work for local residents! 💚💪

After being elected in May, it’s been all systems go for North Tyneside’s first Green councillors, working on projects in North Shields, Whitley Bay and across the borough. They’ve both been:

🌳🌊 Nurdling, litterpicking, investigating how to improve parks and green spaces

🛒🎉 Supporting community events and local businesses

⛽✋ Meeting community groups and developing exciting plans together, tackling everything from fossil fuels to misogyny

⛰️🚸 Resisting the closure of High Borrans Outdoor Centre

💼❓Coordinating case work and finding answers for local residents

We had a quick chat mid-nurdle with clean-up volunteer Mark! 💚🌊

The community effort on our coastline has been extraordinary and Green Party members like Mark are proud to play their part and make a daily difference; for Mark, that means early mornings on Longsands, and a recent trip north to Cambois.

A high spring tide is expected to bring greater volumes of nurdles to shore across the borough this weekend, so if you’ve got some time to help out, please do head down to your local beach in the hours after high tides! Head to the Nurdle Hub for more guidance: link in the comments! 💪📢

The Fish Quay beaches at North Shields need your help! 💚🌊

It was remarkable to see the volume of nurdles at both the high tide line and across the beaches at Shields last night. Local volunteers and Briggs contractors were on site, doing amazing work, but these beaches – exposed to passing shipping and close to the source of the spillage – need urgent support.

There’s equipment, friendly guidance and convenient free parking all on hand. If you have some time to spare and your dustpan and brush at the ready, please do pop down! 👋

A new spring tide means the community clean up needs your help this weekend! 🌊📢

More than 5,300 volunteer hours have been recorded in the clean up effort, and with a visit from a government minister and national press attention building, there’s a feeling that the wider world is finally starting to wake up to the urgency of the situation on our coast. However, as one tide changes for the better, another changes for the worse. From Friday, high levels of pollution are expected across the region with the new spring tide, so it’s all hands on deck. Wherever you are and whatever time you can spare, it can make a difference!

If you’d like to be part of discussions on how the amazing volunteer efforts can be sustained, resourced and built upon, join a public meeting at Cullercoats Methodist Church this Thursday, from 6.30pm. See you there! 💚

A nurdle update from Helen and Martin, your Green councillors 💚📢

As we enter the fourth week since the spill, Helen and Martin want to express their thanks to the community and share their thoughts on what should happen next – including more urgent support for the clean up, and a full investigation of the council’s approach, so we can learn lessons for the future.

To read the full update, follow the link in the comments and let us know what you think. 📰🌊

On the coast and in land, we’re caring for our neighbourhoods! 💚♻️

Shiremoor and West Allotment lead campaigner Caron and our volunteer team were out and about near Boundary Mill today for one of our regular litterpicks in the ward. Always a great sense of achievement to leaving a shared space better than you found it!

If you’re a local Green Party member, keep an eye out for updates from Caron and more information on how to join an upcoming litterpick! 📢🫵
