Domestic Abuse Awareness Month

Domestic abuse can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation or background. While women and children are disproportionately affected, domestic abuse also impacts men and those from the LGBT+ community. Domestic abuse can also have a lasting impact on children and young people who witness or experience abuse within the home.

Throughout October, Warwickshire County Council and its partners are supporting Domestic Abuse Awareness Month 2026, joining the national campaign theme "With Survivors, Always."

This year's theme places survivors' voices at the heart of the conversation, recognising their strength, resilience and lived experience. It also highlights the importance of listening to survivors and ensuring their experiences help shape the services, support and policies designed to keep people safe. The theme reinforces a commitment to listen, believe and support survivors every day of the year.

Domestic Abuse Awareness Month is not only about supporting survivors. It is also about encouraging friends, family members, neighbours and colleagues to recognise the signs of abuse and feel confident in helping someone access support.

Support is available across Warwickshire through a range of specialist services, including Refuge Warwickshire, Safeline, RoSA, and the Blue Sky Sexual Assault Referral Centre.

Halloween safety messages

As children head out trick-or-treating and homes are decorated for Halloween, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service is reminding families of a few simple ways to stay safe while enjoying the celebrations.

Here are their top tips:

· Be seen after dark – if children are trick or treating, help them stay visible with bright or reflective clothing;

· Choose safe costumes – look for costumes with the CE mark and make sure they fit properly;

· Swap candles for battery lights – battery operated lights for a safer alternative for pumpkins and decorations; and

· Know what to do in an incident – in the event of clothing catching fire, remember to stop, drop and roll and call 999 in an emergency
