🌿 Have Your Say on Whitwick’s Future! 🌿

Whitwick Parish Council is seeking community feedback on potential projects for the Legacy Grant Fund.

We want to know which project matters most to you:

🌳 A) Open up Holly Hayes Wood with an accessible path and bridge
🏢 B) A new multi-purpose community building
🌸 C) A Remembrance Garden with landscaped planting and seating

These projects could help bring our community together, improve local facilities and create lasting benefits for Whitwick.

👉 Please complete the feedback form by scanning the QR code and tell us which project you would most like to see.

Your views could help shape the future of our community!

Weather warning issued! ⚠️

A Met Office yellow weather warning for thunderstorms is in place from 12 noon today with the chance of localised flooding across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Three flood alerts have also been issued for Leicester and Leicestershire by the Environment Agency .

The latest weather updates mean possible disruption to road and rail journeys, the chance of flooded properties in some areas, and the potential for power cuts.

Flooding can strike anywhere - especially where ground is dry - so always try to:

• Know your risk and stay informed
• Check in on others, especially people who live alone or may find it harder to cope
• Never enter flood water, on foot or in a vehicle. In an emergency, call 999

Make sure you're prepared for flooding 👉🏽 https://orlo.uk/ptBJZ

Following the recent update from Arriva regarding revisions to the Leicestershire bus network to better match passenger demand, we can now share an update on what is happening to service 12.

Thanks to strong passenger demand, the Arriva 12 service will continue to provide important links for the local community from Monday to Friday. However, following a review of passenger numbers, Saturday journeys on service 12 will no longer operate from 22 August 2026.

Leicestershire County Council are aware that residents need to have access to a Saturday service therefore a replacement bookable taxi service operated by Coalville Cabs for Whitwick residents serving Cademen St, King Richards Hill, St Bernards Rd and Church Lane to and from Coalville town centre will be introduced.

This service will be available from 7:00am and 7:00pm on Saturdays with fares matching what was previously charged on the 12 bus service. We will closely monitor this bookable service to ensure it continues to meet the communities needs for Saturday journeys.

More information on this change can be found at https://www.choosehowyoumove.co.uk/public-transport/bus-service-updates/

We encourage anyone with questions to contact [email protected].

Services may be altered at short notice. Please contact bus operators for further service information.

Heat Wave Alert ☀️

Please do not do anything that could put yourself or others at risk, and take extra care to prevent fires. Avoid activities that could cause sparks or flames, especially outdoors.

Stay safe and follow official advice.

🚨 Severe wildfire alert issued for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland🚨

The UK Government has issued a severe alert due to the very high risk of wildfires following weeks of hot, dry weather. This was a national alert, and you should only dial 999 in an emergency.

Even a small flame can quickly develop into a major wildfire, threatening lives, homes, businesses, wildlife and our emergency responders.

Please help keep our communities safe:

🔥 Do not light disposable barbecues, fire pits, garden incinerators or fireworks
🔥Do not have bonfires or campfires
🔥 Only use barbecues in safe, controlled locations well away from grass, vegetation and open countryside
🚬 Dispose of ci******es and smoking materials responsibly
🗑️ Take all litter home, especially glass bottles, which can magnify heat and start fires
👥 Be mindful of fire risks during outdoor gatherings and events.

🚒 If you see a fire in the open, call 999 immediately. Never assume someone else has reported it.

📱 Download the free What3Words app to help emergency services locate fires quickly, particularly in remote areas.

One Last Push! 🌺

We’re making one final call for volunteers to help us crochet or knit poppies for our Remembrance Sunday mural.

If you’ve been meaning to make some, now is the time! Every poppy will help create a beautiful community display to remember and honour those who served.

🧶 Yarn is available to collect from the Community Parish Council Offices.

📅 All poppies need to be handed in by the end of September so we have time to put the mural together.

Whether you can make one poppy or lots, every single one makes a difference. Please get your hooks and needles out and help us make this a truly special community tribute. 🌺

Please share this post and spread the word!
