Whitworth Town Council

Whitworth Town Council This is the official page for Whitworth Town Council and is used to communicate information and events to the residents of Whitworth.

In Whitworth, local government services are provided by three local authorities - Whitworth Town Council, Rossendale Borough Council and Lancashire County Council. Whitworth Town Council consists of 12 elected members (Councillors), who are served by a Town Clerk. The Mission Statement of Whitworth Town Council is 'To improve the quality of life for the community of Whitworth'. The Town Council of

fices and Council Chamber are located in the Civic Hall complex in Whitworth. Whitworth Town Council:
*Employs a part-time Parish Lengthsman and full time Town Caretaker who, between them, keep the town as clean and tidy as possible;
*Acts as a pressure group upholding the rights and values of the Township;
*Acts as a sounding board for local opinion;
*Acts as a centre for retaining and enforcing the Town's historical, cultural and social identity;
*Inspects and comments on all planning applications and is consulted on new bye laws;
*Actively encourages voluntary initiatives and works hard to encourage tourism and economic regeneration;
*Nominates school governors and appoints trustees to local charities and representatives on such bodies as the Whitworth Sports Council, Police meetings and the Healey Dell Joint Management Committee.
*Produces the Whitworth Valley News magazine;

Whitworth Town Council obtains the money it needs to carry out the services it provides by levying a precept on the Council Tax collected by Rossendale Borough Council (as detailed on your Council Tax bill). The Town Council's Annual Report is available to download and view on the website. To contact Whitworth Town Council telephone 01706 852018 or email [email protected]

Our Mayor, Janet Whitehead, was proud to distribute funds raised through her annual fundraising to 16 amazing non-profit organisations, helping them continue the valuable work they do within our community.

Thanks to the incredible support and generosity shown throughout the year, an amazing £5,200 was raised.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, attended and supported the events. Together, we are making a real difference across our community 💙

📣Join us at Whitworth's Rushcart, this Sunday 7th September📣

Whitworth is one of only four Rushcart celebrations still taking place regularly in the UK, all of them within close proximity: the others are held in Sowerby Bridge, Littleborough and Saddleworth. Whitworth, however, is the only one to use heather, not rushes.

The Rushcart procession starts at 1pm from North St and continues along Market Street finishing at The Ashcroft, with a family fun day both inside and outside. 🥁🎉

All the dance troupes involved in the procession will be showing off their skills throughout the afternoon💃🕺 and there will a bouncy castle, fairground rides🎠🪅, indoor and outdoor stalls as well as the Ashcroft bar and food vendors🍟🍔🍕🥤🍿. This year there will also be a balloon modeller in the foyer of the Ashcroft🎈🎈.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!
