Councillor Eileen Rigby - Pemberton Labour

Councillors hold positions of public trust and can be involved in decisions affecting children and vulnerable people.

So Liberal Democrat councillors in Barnsley proposed asking every elected member to obtain an appropriate DBS certificate.

Reform voted the proposal down.

In 2023 Wigan Councillors voted in favour of all councillors, as good practice, holding a valid DBS certificate, applied through Wigan Council.

I have reported this item that has been abandoned on Latham Lane. Hopefully it will be collected soon.
Can I remind people of Wigan Council’s Bulky Waste collection which is free for up to five items twice per year. There is really no need to leave items on the street.
Thank you to the resident’s who have reported this.

the Bell Park Council

After a long period of discussions and negotiations with the council, I’m really pleased to share the planned improvements to the play area at Redwood Park.

It’s great to finally see these plans coming together, and I’m sure the new and improved play area will be a fantastic facility for local children and families to enjoy.

Work is due to commence in Spring 2027.

I reported concerns made by local residents concerning an empty property on Wimborne Road, Orrell. I received the following reply and will give any updates that are forthcoming.

Dear Councillor Rigby,

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding the condition of 1a Wimborne Road. I have been able to consider the issue raised and would like to advise as follows.

An environmental Enforcement Officer visited 1a Wimborne Road today to carry out a site survey.

The officer found no putrescible waste in the garden but the gardens are overgrown with weeds and shrubs and small trees.

The officer conducted checks for any visible signs such as rat runs, missing drain covers, burrows and didn't find any at the time of his visit.

The property appears to have been empty for a while and an enquiry has been forwarded to our empty homes team to carry out further enquiries.

I trust the above is of assistance, however if you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their relationship.

Clare's Law, also known as the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme, allows individuals to request information about a partner's history of domestic abuse.

It can be an important step in helping people make informed choices and getting the right access to support.

Follow the Wigan Borough Community Safety Partnership page to find out more about how to make a request.
