Everyone deserves to feel safe in their relationship.

Clare's Law, also known as the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme, allows individuals to request information about a partner's history of domestic abuse.

It can be an important step in helping people make informed choices and getting the right access to support.

Follow the Wigan Borough Community Safety Partnership page to find out more about how to make a request.

FURTHER UPDATE:
The work has been completed and one gate is now locked leaving the other one open for access.

Update: after requesting that only one of the main gates remains closed, this is the response:

Dear Councillor Rigby

The investigating service requires some additional time to provide you with a satisfactory resolution.

Your enquiry has been put on hold for the following reason(s):

A job ticket has been raised so one half of the gates can be chained and locked, therefore allowing access to pedestrians but not vehicles.

After I was made aware of this I reported it to Environmental Enforcement. Hopefully, this will be resolved quickly.

What a fantastic day at the Summer Sounds Festival at Haigh Hall, hosted by Wigan Council.

The event brought together care home residents, extra care tenants, people living in supported accommodation, unpaid carers, their families and friends for a truly inclusive celebration. With live music throughout the day, interactive activities, community stalls, and plenty of food and refreshments, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

What made the day so special was the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It was wonderful to see people of all ages and backgrounds coming together, enjoying the entertainment, dancing. singing, making new memories, and, most importantly, feeling able to be themselves.

Events like this play such an important role in supporting wellbeing, tackling social isolation, and celebrating our adult social care communities. A huge thank you to everyone who worked so hard behind the scenes to organise such a successful event, and to all the volunteers, performers and staff who made the day so memorable.

Summer Sounds was a brilliant reminder of the power of community, inclusion and simple shared enjoyment. Wigan Council’s Health & Social Care team should be very proud.
Here’s to many more events like this!
