I’ve always felt a deep connection to nature and wildlife, and I believe we all have a responsibility to protect the green spaces that are so vital to our communities. That’s why I’m heading to Wigan on 14.5.26 to support the Save The Bell From Development Action Group in their fight to protect 150 acres of the last remaining greenbelt in Orrell.
Only doing 3 shows this year and this one is the only one up north!

Hello everyone,

I am posting here following recent statements made by Councillor Maureen O’Bern. I appreciate that some people will find it distasteful for councillors to be making allegations about each other on social media, but I cannot let unfounded and inaccurate statements go unchallenged.

On 22nd January, 2025, more than a year ago now, following the full council meeting, Councillor Sheila Ramsdale and I were approached on the street by Councillor Maureen O’Bern and her husband Mike O’Bern, in a manner that was extremely hostile and threatening, to the extent that the matter was reported to the police on 24th January, 2025.

An investigation was conducted by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and a file submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for consideration. The CPS declined to pursue the matter due to insufficient evidence. (Unfortunately, CCTV evidence was no longer available at the time requested by the police.)

Since this time, Councillor O’Bern has repeatedly stated on social media that this was a fabricated allegation, which is not the case. No such conclusion was reached by GMP, who would not have submitted a file to the CPS if they believed the allegation to be false.

While I would expect strong disagreements about certain matters among councillors, I expect to be treated with dignity and certainly not threatened on the street – such behaviour is completely unacceptable and has no place in politics. Furthermore, I cannot stand by silently while the same person engages in similar behaviour again, by falsely stating that the incident in question did not happen.

I understand this sort of thing is not what people expect from their councillors, which is why I will not be commenting further and I will continue, as I have always done, to focus my efforts on issues affecting my own ward.

Thanks,

Eileen
