🗑️ Fly-tipping update 🚮

We have received an increase in reports of fly-tipping.

There are several ways you can dispose of rubbish in our borough:

✅ using your home recycling bins (check the council website for what goes in what bin!)
✅ using the council’s FREE Buly Waste collections for larger items including beds and sofas
✅ using the recycling plant at Ince (Kirklees Recycling Centre)
✅ using a reputable, licensed local company to come and remove your waste

📱 If you spot fly-tipping, please take a photo and report either to our inbox, or directly on the Wigan Council website.

🚧 Wigan Lower Road - Gas Works Update

📅 We have been in touch with Cadent: the gas works are due to finish by September 1st.

🔥 We appreciate this is an inconvenience to us all, but the works are necessary as they are replacing old gas mains and therefore improving safety.

🏫 The works have been scheduled in the summer holidays to minimise disruption as there are fewer vehicles on the road — especially at peak times.

The free buses are being extended to 11-16 year olds from January. Currently 16, 17 and 18 year olds (college age teens) and under 5s get free bus travel all year round, and August is free for 11-16s. Free travel is also available for pensioners, and qualified disabled passengers.

There will be a meeting on local bus travel tomorrow, arranged by Shevington and District Community Association: please attend if you would like more info about bus travel, particularly for elderly people.

🚮 There will be a litter pick on Thu 13th August at 10am-12pm, meeting outside Shevington Library.

🧤 This is being organised by Wigan Council — equipment will be provided!
