Young people who have been part of a year-long art project have been to see their finished work on show at Wigan Museum this week.
Young people from Leigh based youth group, Global Friends, worked on a project led by artist, Sahjan Kooner, using clay modelling, 3D scanning and storyboarding to imagine their ‘dream museum of the future’ inspired by historical objects from Wigan Museum.
Visitors to the museum can now see the young people’s work, titled, 'The Zone of Ghosts', and presented as both physical models and an interactive storytelling game.
Gift, 17, went along this week to see her finished artwork.
She said,
“The project was sometimes hard work but always fun and I am so proud to see my own work on display in a museum! I’m looking forward to bringing my family and friends back to see it too and I’d love to create more art in the future.”
Artist Sahjan joined the group on their visit to Wigan Museum.
They added,
“It’s been wonderful to have the time and space to work with this group of young people, to watch them think and imagine and really have agency in this project.
“Young people have a beautiful ability to tell stories, but their voices are often unheard so it’s lovely to see this work finished and on display for everyone to see.”
This project was produced by FACT Liverpool working in partnership with Wigan Museum and funded by Art Fund. The artwork forms part of the museum’s ‘Wigan’s Voice’ exhibition, which is free to visit and on until 25 July 2026.
