🚒🔥 50 Miles for 50 Years – What an Achievement! 🔥🚒

Two firefighters from Williton were proud to be part of a fantastic group of lads who completed a 50-mile charity run to raise money for a great cause.

The run was organised as part of Kevin’s 50th birthday celebrations – 50 miles for 50 years! An incredible challenge and a brilliant way to mark such a milestone while supporting charity.

What an achievement by everyone involved! 💪

A huge well done to all the guys who took part. Please share and support if you can to help raise as much as possible for this great cause.

🚒🔥

FIVE West Somerset friends who admit they had never previously done any serious long-distance running, have so far raised more than £5,300 toward a £5,500 target for a local charity by completing the 51 miles of the Coleridge Way from Nether Stowey to Lynmouth in a non-stop 15 hours.

🚒 🔥Farewell Tyrone – From All of Us at Williton Fire Station 🔥🚒

Last night, Williton Fire Station said goodbye to one of our own, Firefighter Tyrone Christian. As he finished his final drill night with the crew. It’s never easy to see a colleague and friend move on, and the station felt a little quieter as we marked the end of his time with us.

Tyrone has served in the fire service for the past 6 years and throughout that time has been a valued and trusted member of the Williton team. His professionalism, dedication, hard work and unwavering commitment to the role have made a real difference, not only to the community we serve, but to everyone who has had the privilege of working alongside him. He has always led by example and will be greatly missed both on and off the run.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Tyrone’s family for their constant support during his time in the service. A special thank you to Sally and Molly, and to all his wider family members, your understanding and encouragement behind the scenes have helped make everything he’s achieved possible.

Tyrone, thank you for everything you’ve given to Williton Fire Station. We wish you every success and happiness in your next chapter. Once part of the fire service family, always part of the family. You’ll always have a place here with us.

Best of luck and stay safe. 👏

🎉🚒 Yes… we know we’re late to the New Year’s party!
But in true fire station style, we turned up eventually, lights flashing and ready to go! 😄

As we look back on the last year, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has and continues to support us. We’ve faced long nights, early mornings, missed meals, missed moments with friends and family and we couldn’t do it without the people around us who keep cheering us on.

To our loved ones for understanding when we dash out in the middle of dinner; to our local community for always supporting us; and to the employers and businesses who allow on-call firefighters to leave work at a moment’s notice, thank you. Your support keeps our community safe.

In 2025, we attended 249 emergency calls, including automatic fire alarms to domestic fires, carbon monoxide incidents, chimney and heathland fires, road traffic collisions, flooding, vehicle fires, forced entry to assist ambulance crews, and so much more. Every call is different, but everyone matters to someone, and we’re proud to be there when needed.

As a station, we’ve also faced challenges with tough incidents, hard decisions, and the difficult moments when familiar faces hang up their helmets for the last time. The fire service is constantly changing, and so are we.

Which brings us to 2026 and a big message from us to you.

Last night marked the end of an incredible chapter as Firefighter Ian Hall attended the station for the final time after 40 years of service in the fire service. Four decades is no small achievement, it’s a lifetime of commitment, countless call-outs, long nights, missed family moments, and moments of bravery that most of us will never see. To put that into perspective, 40 years is over 14,600 days dedicated to protecting others, often in the most challenging and dangerous circumstances.

Throughout his career, Ian has been a constant presence in the community, serving not for recognition, but because it mattered. He has helped keep families safe, supported colleagues, and stood ready whenever the call came in. His service leaves a lasting impact not just on the fire station, but on the community he has faithfully protected for four decades.

While this chapter closes, Ian will always remain a valued part of the fire service family. The bonds built over 40 years don’t disappear, they last a lifetime. We also extend a heartfelt thank you to Christine and Josh, whose unwavering support behind the scenes made this remarkable career possible. The strength of a firefighter is often shared with their family, and tonight we recognise and thank them for standing alongside Ian every step of the way.

As Ian now stands down from his duties, we wish him nothing but happiness, good health, and well-earned time ahead. On behalf of everyone at Station 71, thank you for your service, your leadership, and your friendship. We wish you all the very best for the future, once a firefighter, always part of the family. 🚒

🔥 Busy Summer for Williton Fire Station 🔥

Since the start of June, our crews have responded to well over 60 incidents – from wildfires and RTCs to alarm activations and medical emergencies (Co Responder). With the recent heatwave and dry conditions, it’s been an especially demanding couple of months. You can see some photos from recent incidents below, giving a glimpse into the work we’ve been carrying out.

Despite the challenges, we’re incredibly grateful for the continued support from our local community – your kind words, messages, and encouragement really do make a difference. We also want to say a special thank you to our families, who’ve been patient, understanding, and supportive through this busy period – we couldn’t do it without you. 🙌

🚧 A Quick Reminder About Parking 🚧
Recently, we’ve experienced some struggles accessing and attending incidents due to a build-up of parked vehicles in certain areas around the local community. In an emergency, every second counts, and blocked roads due to poor choices when parking can delay our response. Please take a moment when parking to ask yourself: “Would an emergency vehicle fit through that gap?” Your consideration can make a vital difference in helping us reach those in need quickly and safely.

🚒 We’re Still Recruiting! 🚒
Interested in joining our team? Williton Fire Station is actively recruiting on-call firefighters. If you’re up for a challenge and want to give something back to your community, come along to the station any Thursday evening between 19:00–21:00 for a chat with the crew and to find out more.
