I was hoping to attend the National Emergency Briefing screening this evening in Bingley at All Saints Church but sadly, my tasks overran so I had to give apologies 😢

Thanks to my Bingley Green Party colleagues John Brazendale and Rachael Drucquer for being there and participating. Also thanks to Gordon Roscoe and team as always for their hard work and for facilitating the screening 💚💚

I’d also like to show appreciation to independent Councillor Joe Wheatley for attending and for his support. The fact that Bingley Town Council “undeclared” their recognition of the climate crisis shows there is much work to do going forward.

Biggest thanks of course go to the 150 or so residents who gave up their time to watch the film and participate in the discussions afterwards 👏👏

We need to take note of the issues affecting our climate and the accelerated changes taking place. There is no Planet B 🌍

🌍 What a turnout tonight for The People’s Emergency Briefing in Bingley. The church was packed, and we only just found seats. The film was a powerful reminder of what climate change means for our future unless we act.

Green town councillor Rachael Drucquer spoke about Bingley Town Council dropping the climate emergency declaration it made in 2019. She said we need more people who care about climate change to stand for the town council, and urged residents to write to their councillors to make clear that this matters.

We also agree with independent councillor Joe Wheatley. Bingley Town Council could do much more to help our town prepare for climate change, but too many councillors are still not taking it seriously enough.

In case you missed it, there’s another chance to see the film at Cottingley St Michael & All Saints Church on Thursday 10 September at 7pm.

Come and see the National Emergency Briefing tomorrow or next week, there are two screenings here in Bingley and Cottingley.

After a summer of extreme heat, drought and incredibly dry weather, this is a film I think everyone should see. It looks at what climate change means for our food, our homes and our communities, and what happens if we fail to tackle it.

Good to see the Telegraph & Argus covering the campaign to save Bingley Pool, with Jeremy Thackray from the Friends of Bingley Pool speaking up for local swimmers.

🏊 Nearby pools are already full
🏊 Families need local places to swim
🏊 Bingley clearly needs a swimming pool

We welcome any funding that helps protect the pool. We also agree with that Bradford Council should remove Bingley Pool from the list of assets marked for disposal.

That would give people much more confidence that the pool has a future. Please watch, share, and keep backing the campaign to protect Bingley Pool.

Sadly, Bradford Council’s Planning Committee voted to approve plans for 100 homes on the fields between Wilsden and Harden.

🌱 Thank you to everyone in the community who spoke up, wrote in and helped make the case for protecting this land.
🏡 A huge thank you as well to Wilsden Parish Council for standing with residents and fighting these plans.
💚 This experience has shown why Bradford Council needs new voices who are willing to question council staff, challenge decisions and stand up for local communities when something does not add up.

We are deeply disappointed by the decision, but proud of everyone who stood up for these fields, our villages and the green gap between them.
