🚒 Another two calls for Wilton this morning

🔔 06:44 – Standby Move to Shaftesbury
A crew of four were mobilised to provide standby cover at Shaftesbury Fire Station while local crews dealt with a larger incident.

🔔 09:51 – Fire in the Open
While on standby, the crew were mobilised to a reported fire in the open near Shaftesbury. On arrival, it was quickly established that the fire was a controlled burn.

The crew arrived back at Wilton Fire Station just before 11:00.

🚒 Drill Night 🚒

The crew went off station for drill night this week, with a focus on developing our incident command skills.

We’re currently preparing one of our firefighters to attend the Incident Command Level 1 course at the fireservicecollege in a couple of weeks.

Drills like this are an important part of developing our up-and-coming incident commanders, giving them valuable experience of the processes and decision-making involved in commanding an incident.

🚒 Another busy start to the day for the crew at Wilton

The crew were called to four incidents in the early hours of this morning, with the first call coming in shortly after 1am.

🧑‍🚒 01:17 – Road Traffic Collision, Shrewton
The Wilton crew assisted the wholetime crew from Salisbury Fire Station at an RTC in Shrewton.

🧑‍🚒 02:06 – Residential Alarm, Salisbury College
The crew attended the halls of residence following an alarm activation. After investigating, the crew confirmed that it was a false alarm.

🧑‍🚒 02:53 – Standby Move, Salisbury Fire Station
The crew moved to Salisbury Fire Station to provide fire cover for the local area.

🧑‍🚒 04:19 – Residential Alarm, Old Mill Hotel, Harnham
The crew attended following an alarm activation at the hotel with the assistance of Fordingbridge Fire Station
A thorough investigation was carried out, with the crew establishing that this was also a false alarm.

The crew returned to Wilton shortly before 6am, ready and available for the next call.

An early start for Wilton this morning

The crew were called to assist the ambulance service with gaining entry to a property in Wylye.

🚒 02:59
The crew were mobilised to reports of domestic fire alarms in Bowerchalke. It was found to be a false alarm, and the crew were stood down while on route.

Last year, we responded to 671 accidental dwelling fires, with 32.5% involving people over 65. Of those older people, three-quarters lived alone.

On this Older People's Day, take a moment to check in on those who may need additional support. Simple actions can create a significant impact.

- Do they have working smoke alarms?
- Are they cooking safely?
- Are they using electricity properly?

🚒 Drill night at Wilton this week!

The focus was RTC training, with the crew using various techniques to gain access to the vehicle. The main winch was also used to roll the vehicle onto its side before access was started.

During off-station training a couple of weeks ago, we took the opportunity to capture an updated photograph of all the crew members stationed at 32 Wilton 🧑‍🚒📸

Tomorrow (22 September) will see the Grand Fire Ride set off from Lyme Regis, visiting all 50 of our fire stations over five days before finishing at Bristol Children's Hospital.

The aim is to raise as much money as possible for Fire Fighters Charity and the Grand Appeal.
