đź’¬ URGENT UPDATE - SOUTH WI******ER GOLF CLUB

I am shocked and disappointed that members of the South Wi******er Golf Club were notified of the sale of the freehold of the site by Crown Golf to Bloor Homes Ltd.

Wi******er Conservatives will fight development like this on green spaces and call on Wi******er City Council to rule it out of their local plan immediately.

South Wi******er Golf Club is subject to a deed of covenant ensuring it remains as a golf club until at least 2026. This prohibits any development of the site until then. It seems that Crown Golf will lease the course back initially for the period of the covenant, which may be extended if the land is not taken forward by Wi******er City Council.

Local residents will be very concerned about this latest development following the widespread survey works and the announcement of this sale. A significant development proposal on this site would be considered strategic growth under planning rules and would therefore need to be included in Wi******er City Council’s local plan.

Many of us have already sent a strong message to Wi******er City Council by responding to their local plan consultation. We must protect our green fields and settlement gaps and if I am re-elected I will continue to do everything in my power to stop development here.

Wi******er's MP Steve Brine said “There is no evidence that a significant increase in housing numbers is required over and above the existing local plan.

"The golf course is outside the development boundary of Wi******er, forms part of a valued landscape and provides an important facility for residents.

"Crown Golf will take a deserved reputation hit for this cynical move and it explains why they’ve been so sluggish to get back to me when I reached out to them recently. Not impressed.”

Safe Crossing for Otterbourne Feasibility Study Update

I was able to brief Councillor Rob Humby, Executive Member for Hampshire Highways this week on Otterbourne Parish Council's recently commissioned crossing feasibility report. The report recommends that a zebra crossing outside the Nisa store is possible if the approaching road traffic speed can be reduced.

One of the main requirements for a zebra crossing is that the 85th percentile traffic speeds must be below 35mph in order to ensure the safety of pedestrians. As the current figures are in excess of this (at around 37mph) further work to reduce vehicle speeds is required before a crossing can be installed.

In addition to the work of Otterbourne Parish Council locating the flashing speed sign around the village the traffic engineers recommended that visually narrowing the road with white lines at the road edge (as in Hursley) may also help slow traffic speeds. I have asked Cllr Humby if the lining work can be commissioned as soon as possible. We can then re-assess the traffic speed ahead of a decision.

If the lines are not effective then the next option is a pavement build out -this would clearly be a more significant engineering project.
