Wi******er City Council is carrying out a Community Governance Review that would create a new Wi******er City Centre parish council. PLEASE NOTE: the proposal would also redraw boundaries to include other areas including the BUSHFIELD CAMP into the new city centre parish.

Sparsholt and Compton Parish Council have been opposing development at Bushfield Camp. If you want to protect the site from being annexed into a parish likely to support the development of the business quarter, please STRONGLY DISAGREE with Q10: To what extent do you agree or disagree with the potential change of the boundary to include the Bushfield site (W5) in a new parish council for the Wi******er town area?

Consultation closes Monday 22 December 2025. Respond now: www.winchester.gov.uk/CGR

As the Church Commissioners prepare to submit revised plans for Bushfield Camp, we must also press on with another crucial aspect of our campaign!

Given the moderate adverse effects of the proposed business park on the integrity of priority habitats (including the River Itchen SSSI and SAC), Wi******er City Council, as the Local Planning Authority, should explore alternative options for the site.

We plan to submit a community-led planning application to Wi******er City Council as a viable alternative to the current proposals. This alternative will aim to enhance the onsite and local biodiversity network and provide tangible benefits for our community.

Have your say as to how the site should be managed by completing the following survey - https://forms.gle/z5VKifRDRWED5eJL6

Yesterday I was lucky enough to see this beautiful barn owl hunting in the fields behind Bushfield Camp. Unfortunately barn owls are in decline in the UK. This sighting reinforced how important and worthwhile our campaign is, we need to protect these incredible creatures and their habitats! Turn your sound up to listen to Bushfield's resident Tawny Owl. Or owls, as It's actually two birds, the female owl providing the sharp 'ke-wick' (twit) sound, and the male responding with the wavering 'hoo-hoo' (twoo). Over the past 50 years, Bushfield Camp has been reclaimed by nature into a wildlife haven, supporting various priority habitats and a rich diversity of species. The site has even been designated a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC) and is home to species including the Hazel Dormouse, Badger, Bats, Tawny and Little Owls, Common Lizard, Fieldfare, Linnet, Bullfinch, Cinnabar Moth, Slow Worm, Woodpecker, Song Thrush, Turtle Dove, Yellowhammer, and a plethora of orchids.

The site is also cherished as a recreational space by the community of Wi******er. Numerous campaigns have been launched to protect the site as a green space, including a village green application, but unfortunately they have failed. However, we now face a daunting challenge: the threat of development that could irreversibly damage this natural haven. Our story began when the Church Commissioners submitted a planning application to Wi******er City Council, proposing to develop Bushfield Camp, a unique and cherished community green space, into a sprawling business park.

The proposed development and site allocation within the Local Plan have received a huge number of objections from local people, parish councils, and environmental and nature conservation groups. Despite the clear local opposition to the development, Wi******er City Council appears to be pushing the development through regardless!

Determined to protect Bushfield Camp for future generations, we, a group of passionate community members, have united under the banner of "Buy Back Bushfield". Our vision is clear: to fundraise and purchase the site from the Church Commissioners, and establish it as a permanent nature reserve. By doing so, we aim to preserve its valuable habitats, safeguard its biodiversity, and maintain it as a treasured community asset for years to come. We invite you to join us on this journey to protect and preserve Bushfield Camp.
