The Lakeland Horticultural Society - Holehird Gardens Holehird Gardens, the home of the Lakeland Horticultural Society is 12 acres of volunteer-run stunning gardens and a partner garden to RHS.

Although the gardens are open, Visitor Reception is closed. Plant sales are available. Holehird Gardens are the home of the Lakeland Horticultural Society. The LHS exists to promote the art, science and practice of horticulture, with particular reference to conditions in the Lake District. We are fortunate that Holehird Gardens provide a beautiful setting in which to carry out our work. The garden

s are open to the public at all times and we are delighted to welcome an increasing number of visitors each year. All the society's activities are undertaken entirely by members on a voluntary basis. This means that the emphasis is continuously adjusted by the current skills and enthusiasms of these members. Around 200 active members out of a total membership of about 1600 provide the core of our workforce, while a significant proportion of members live further afield and may only be able to visit the gardens when on holiday. We welcome their involvement at all levels and are always interested in new contributions and new ideas.

COVID-19 update
Although the gardens are open, all facilities, including toilets, remain closed and will not be re-opened until we can safely do so. The priority for the LHS continues to be the safety of our volunteers, visitors and the local community. It is important that government guidelines on reducing contact with other people in order to control the virus and save lives are followed.

COVID-19 UPDATE
The latest government advice tells us all to stay alert and restrict contact with other people in order to control the virus and save lives. The priority for the LHS is to ensure the safety of our volunteers, visitors and the local community. We, therefore, continue to ask visitors not to come to Holehird Gardens at this time. All our facilities are currently closed, and will remain so until it is safe to reopen them.

COVID-19 UPDATE
It is with great regret that, for the first time in the Society’s 50 year history, we have to ask visitors not to come to Holehird Gardens at this time but to stay at home to avoid spreading the virus. This message is in line with that from other properties in the Lake District, as well as the National Park Authority and the National Trust.
