Hi I'm Jack Robertson and I'm standing in the May 7th Essex county council elections.
I'm not actually a politician, I'm a Witham based HGV driver and father of four who has lived in Witham since 2010, who just wants to improve our local area for our children, future generations and fellow families around us.
I'm very much part of the community and proud to contribute towards it.
My wife is a highly experienced senior nurse and my brother previously served in the military so I have a good insight into health matters and the experiences of veterans and defence.
I'm already a Witham town councillor, leader of the majority Labour group with a provable record of recent success as an individual and part of the Labour led group, including extra cctv camera funding for general crime prevention and particularly extra safety for women and girls.
I was a strong opposing voice for the introduction of parking charges on our high street and happily led the planning committee that unanimously said no such charges should be allowed.
The Witham rail disaster memorial plaque.
The precept (the increase of tax we collect) lower than previous years and aiming to be even lower next year.
Increasing the amount of free events the town council hold.
The speed indicator sign on Hatfield road (yes it is calibrated correctly, I've tested it myself with a calibrated hgv)
Speaking up for and voting for the pedestrian crossing on Hatfield road at Graham Brown walk.
'Banging on the door' of Essex Highways to improve the dangerous zebra crossing on Maldon road, which then was quickly fixed.
My absolute key passion is to improve pedestrian safety.
I use and see our roads all day as a profession, a common sense approach to fixing our roads is desperately needed, not a Tory run council holding back millions given by Labour central government and letting our infrastructure go to ruin.
To improve safety and help our Police fight crime with cctv cameras.
Help provide genuinely affordable housing for local families and future generations: no longer can a decent working class job provide a decent sized home and that holds so many people and our economy back. I dread to think how the children of today will afford decent housing in the future, demand drastically outstrips supply, and yes social housing can be reserved for local people only: the Labour led Basildon Council has done it, others can too.
That's what I am doing locally and intend to carry on if elected to county council.
"But I don't like Keir Starmer!"
whilst nationally the client media pummel Keir Starmer largely for the sake of it, there is actually some pretty good stuff going through parliament and government that is good for many of us:
Workers rights bill, renters rights bill, ground maintenance caps, ticket touting restrictions, more breakfast clubs, ยฃ10billion extra into SEND, defence spending up, vast improvements to military housing, better veteran access to social housing, tackling benefit fraud, covid fraud, solving more illegal migration cases than any government before and arresting the gangs and false shop fronts that launder their money, crackdown on online knife sales, many more NHS appointments and community diagnostic centres being built right now including in Essex etc, etc, etc.
I probably won't and don't intend to change the mind of hardline Reformers, but instead if you are anti-Reform or anti-right then Labour and myself are the only viable option to defeat them at these elections. Despite having a Tory MP, Witham town council is majority Labour, no greens and only one Lib dem.
I do and always will do what is right to represent working families and people in Witham.
