🚒🏃‍♂️ FROM THE FIRE ENGINE TO THE FINISH LINE! 🏃‍♀️🚒

This weekend, crews from Witney Fire Station are swapping their fire boots for running trainers as they take on the Oxford Half Marathon! 💪🔥

Our firefighters are used to tackling challenges head-on, but this time the challenge is a little different — 13.1 miles of determination, grit and a whole lot of hard work! 🏅

Leading the charge, our very own Watch Manager will be taking on the 13.1-mile challenge, showing that leadership doesn't stop when you leave the fire station! 👏🏅

We're incredibly proud to see our crew members taking on this challenge, pushing themselves to the limit and representing Witney Fire Station out on the course.

Whether it's responding to emergencies or pounding the pavements, our crews always give it their all! ❤️🚒

A massive good luck to everyone taking part — you've got this! And remember, if you see our firefighters out on the course, give them a cheer… they might need it around mile 10! 😂👏

🐴🚒 WHEN HORSEPOWER MEETS FIREPOWER! 🚒🐴

After attending an incident in the local area, our crews were busy packing everything away and getting the fire engine ready to head back to station when we had some unexpected visitors… 👀

Two very well-behaved horses and their owners came over to say hello, and naturally, the crew couldn’t resist stopping for a few photos! 📸🐴

One firefighter was particularly excited to meet them… although we're not entirely sure who was more excited! 😂

Things took an unexpected turn when one of the horses decided to give our firefighter a big kiss! 😘🐴

All the commotion got us thinking about just how much times have changed…

Once upon a time, horses were an essential part of the fire service, pulling fire engines and equipment to incidents. Today, our modern appliances have plenty of horsepower of their own — so these two were thankfully not required to pull our fire engine home! 😂

A huge thank you to their owners for stopping to say hello. They certainly made for a memorable end to the incident.

From horsepower to diesel power — some things have certainly changed! 🐴➡️🚒

🚒 NEVER FORGET | 11th SEPTEMBER 2001 🚒

Twenty-five years ago today, the world stood still.

At 8:46am, the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

What followed was unimaginable.

But amongst the chaos, smoke and devastation were ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

343 firefighters from the FDNY made the ultimate sacrifice.

They ran towards danger whilst thousands were running away.

They climbed the stairs, knowing the risks. They answered the call, just as firefighters around the world are trained to do.

Today, from all of us at Witney Fire Station and across Oxfordshire, we remember the 2,977 innocent people who lost their lives and the brave emergency responders who never came home.

As firefighters, the images and stories of that day will forever remind us of the true meaning of courage, sacrifice and brotherhood.

Some gave their lives trying to save people they had never even met.

We will never forget.

Our crews recently attended a callout in the area of Cotswold Wildlife Park

While we were there, the fantastic team at the Wildlife Park were incredibly helpful and kind enough to give us a little tour — including a look around the lion enclosure! 🦁

Everything was going perfectly… until one of the lions decided to let out a BIG roar and pounced! 😳😂

Let’s just say one of our crew members suddenly discovered a level of speed they didn’t know they had! 🏃‍♂️💨😂

A huge thank you to the team at Cotswold Wildlife Park for looking after us and for being so welcoming. It’s not every day the job comes with a close-up encounter with the king of the jungle! 🦁❤️

🚒 Your local crews, always ready to respond — even when the wildlife wants to test our running skills! 😂
