If you have a little time to spare, why not enjoy volunteering with our Green team at Witney Lake and Country Park and our other green spaces?

If that's a step too far, you can still help by litter picking. We have equipment you can borrow.

The annual Witney Photo group exhibition will be held on June 13th in our Main Hall 📸 The exhibition runs from 10:00 - 16:00 and entry is free 📸

Now halfway through , our hardworking Works Team has been busy planting the town’s summer flower beds! 🌼🌷🌻

Not only do they add colour and beauty to our streets, but they also provide valuable habitats and food sources for pollinators such as bees and butterflies. We’re looking forward to seeing them flourish and brighten up Witney throughout the summer months.

💐It's Local Council Clerk's Week, and it's the perfect opportunity to recognise something that often goes unnoticed: there is no shelf full of books, no handbook, and no amount of training courses that can truly replace the knowledge, experience and judgement that Clerks and council officers bring to their roles every day.

At Witney Town Council, we recently added up the collective service of our current staff team and reached an impressive 113 years. That's 113 years of local knowledge, problem-solving, institutional memory, professional expertise and understanding of our community.

What makes this resource even more valuable is the way that knowledge is shared. Whether someone has been with the Council for decades or is new to local government, there is always someone willing to answer a question, offer advice, provide context or lend a hand. Knowledge is shared generously and without ego.

The strength of our team comes not just from individual experience, but from a culture where people support one another and work together to achieve the best outcomes for the town.

At the very heart of this we recognise the contribution of our Town Clerk and Chief Executive, whose leadership over many years has helped shape the strong, knowledgeable and supportive team we have today.

Resident Pair of Terns Return to Witney Lake and Country Park 🌳

We're delighted to see a resident pair of terns return to the tern raft at Witney Lake and Country Park once again. These elegant birds have become regular visitors to the site, and we hope they have a successful breeding season in the months ahead.

The return of breeding terns is a positive sign for local biodiversity. Terns are sensitive to changes in their environment, and their presence at the lake indicates that the park continues to provide valuable habitat for a wide range of wildlife.

With the warmer weather on the way, why not take a visit to the lake and see these beautiful birds for yourself?

Temporary Traffic Regulation Notice – S14 Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984
Temporary Emergency Road Closure – at North Leigh, New Yatt Road

Oxfordshire County Council has been informed of a temporary emergency road closure on New Yatt Road whilst sewer repair works are carried out for public safety reasons.

A temporary Emergency Notice is being made to implement the temporary closure and will operate on 9 June 2026 between 10:30 and 18:00 hours.

Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles and for those frontages within the closure area, subject to the progress of the works and liaison with the works supervisor.
