Planning a summer event? Remember your TEN ☀️

With the busy summer season approaching, we’re reminding event organisers to check
whether their activities such as festivals, community events, charity fundraisers, or bar
extensions require a Temporary Event Notice (TEN).

A TEN is needed if you plan to...
• Sell or supply alcohol
• Provide regulated entertainment (music, dancing, performances)
• Serve hot food or drink between 23:00–05:00

Please ensure you have the correct permissions in place before advertising or
operating. Full details and how to apply can be found at: https://www.westoxon.gov.uk/business-and-licensing/apply-or-renew-licences-and-permits/organising-public-events/temporary-event-notice/

The Met Office has issued a “red” weather warning for Friday 26 June. This covers much of England including Oxfordshire.

On Friday 26 June, Oxfordshire's household waste and recycling centres will open at 8am but close early at 1pm.

Thanks to the booking system, we have been able to notify those who had booked a slot, saving any wasted journeys as a result of this early closure. Those who had bookings have been invited to rebook their visit for an alternative time.

The Red Weather Warning for Extreme Heat has been extended until 9.00pm on Friday 26 June ⚠️

Many of us enjoy warm weather, but these temperatures are exceptional for the UK and can affect everyone – not just those who are usually considered vulnerable.

Please take extra care during this period by:
💧 Drinking plenty of water
☀️ Avoiding prolonged periods in direct sunlight
🏠 Keeping indoor spaces as cool as possible
🚶 Limiting strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day

Please also check in on family, friends and neighbours who may need extra support. A quick call or visit can make a real difference.

🐾 Don't forget about your pets! Keep them cool at home and avoid walking them until temperatures have eased.

🌊 While it may be tempting to cool off in rivers, lakes or reservoirs, open water can be dangerous. Cold water shock, strong currents and hidden hazards can put even experienced swimmers at risk. Always choose supervised swimming locations where possible and never enter the water alone.

📢 Have your say on Witney and Chipping Norton markets.

Our charter markets are an important part of community life. They support independent traders, bring people together and help our town centres thrive.

Now we want to hear from you! Whether you visit the markets every week, occasionally, or would like to visit more often, your feedback will help shape their future.

The survey only takes a few minutes to complete and will help us understand what people enjoy about the markets and what improvements they would like to see.

Complete the survey by 12pm on Monday 13 July: https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=D1V8cFamLUOscXhDjDDVXRMB7lR2JvpDt4V3GEF3Z-RUQllPSkdBRktZWk9aN05MTDBNTE1IT0YzVC4u&route=shorturl

🚫 Tackling fly-tipping and environmental crime across West Oxfordshire 🚫

The Council is continuing to take action to keep communities clean and protect the local environment.

Targeted CCTV surveillance has helped reduce fly-tipping by 96% in an Eynsham hotspot, while officers are working with partners including Thames Valley Police, the Environment Agency and HMRC to tackle illegal waste carriers across the district.

So far this year, enforcement officers have issued 28 Fixed Penalty Notices for various offences, alongside warning letters, formal cautions and ongoing investigations into more serious offences.

A thank you to our local communities from our Ubico teams! Across West Oxfordshire, our waste and recycling crews work hard every day to keep our communities clean and safe – often carrying out physically demanding work in all weather conditions.

Thank you for supporting the teams who help keep West Oxfordshire running smoothly. Your community spirit is greatly appreciated.

Thank you to our local communities!
We’ve been hearing some fantastic feedback from our crews, who’ve been out working in the hot weather. Many residents have kindly been offering cold drinks and water while teams are out on their rounds. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who’s shown support - it’s hugely appreciated😊

Less duplication means more money for local communities. 💷

In the coming weeks, the government will decide whether the current councils in our area should be replaced with one, two or three new councils.

Whichever option is chosen, local government reorganisation will save money by reducing duplication and making services more efficient.

That means more resources can go towards the local services residents rely on, from roads and waste to social care and housing.
