🚒 Incident Update – Multi- Fire Response 🚒

At 23:08 last night, fire control received multiple calls reporting a series of fires in rural terrain. Crews from Wiveliscombe, Dulverton, Barnstaple, Lynton, South Molton, Bampton, and Middlemoor attended the scene at Molland common East Ansty.

Specialist 4x4 atvs were deployed to access difficult areas, with firefighters working tirelessly through the early hours of the morning to bring multiple seats of fire under control.

Thanks to the dedication and teamwork of all crews involved, the fires were successfully contained and hotspots are now being monitored.

🔥 Please remember to take extra care in dry conditions — even small flames can spread quickly.

!!!THANK YOU!!!

From Sophie, Rob, Ross and everyone at Wiveliscombe Fire Station, we just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported the fundraiser for Sophie’s surgery, & the challenges that Rob & Ross are soon to take on🏃‍♂️🥾

Over £3,000 has been raised, with most of that coming in within just 48 hours, which is absolutely insane. The kind comments, generosity and number of shares has meant the world! It has been shared far & wide and even reached firefighters in London. It’s also been published in the Wellington Weekly and the West Country Free Press, which absolutely blew our minds!

Every donation, share, message and bit of encouragement is helping us to make this a reality. The firefighting community is clearly very strong & something we’re very grateful to be a part of🚒

💚Thank you from the bottom of our hearts💚

We need your help.
This is Rob, one of our own, and his wife Sophie. Over the last few years Sophie has faced serious health issues and is now reliant on a feeding tube after both her oesophagus and stomach became paralysed due to two rare conditions, Achalasia and Gastroparesis.

There is one final option that could give Sophie a chance at a more independent life again – a gastric pacemaker. While NHS funded elsewhere in the UK, it isn’t funded in England and costs at least £20,000. If successful, it could significantly ease Sophie’s symptoms and allow her to eat relatively normal again, potentially removing the need for her feeding tube & giving her back her independence.

Rob and Sophie are fundraising £25,000 to cover the surgery, follow-ups and travel costs. Any remaining funds will be donated to Achalasia Action and GUTs UK to support research and others living with these conditions.

To raise money, Rob is taking on a 100-mile trek along the Jurassic Coast from 21–24 May, finishing on their first wedding anniversary. Ross, also a firefighter here at Wivey, is running the North Devon Marathon on 30 June to support Sophie too 💚

Thank you from all of us for taking the time to read this, any support, donations, sharing, or words of encouragement, all means the world to Rob and Sophie.

This weeks drill night our crews were busy sharpening their skills during a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) exercise. The scenario focused on advanced extrication techniques, including space creation, seat removal (Tunnelling), door removal, roof removal, dashboard lift, and dashboard roll.

Regular training like this ensures our firefighters are prepared to work safely, efficiently, and effectively when real incidents happen, helping us provide the best possible care to those who need us most.

DSFRS spent most of Christmas Day dealing with a large heathland fire near West Anstey, Exmoor.

A crew from Dulverton was mobilised to smoke seen coming from the ridge of West Anstey Common.

Upon arrival the crew confirmed a 60 metre fire front and requested a second Pump.

Over time this was then escalated to 6 Pumps and a Water Carrier, as well as a number of Specialist Officers and two ATVs.

The fire is now believed to have been extinguished and crews have left the scene.

This evening’s drill night was a pretty special evening for our Crew as our very own Gareth undertook his Test of Potential - an assessed drill that aims to test a Firefighter’s leadership, critical thinking and decision making.

The crew all worked together to provide a realistic training scenario that portrayed what our fire crews may have to deal with at real incidents.

Gareth passed this assessment and will be undergoing training to become competent in command and control!

A massive congratulations to Gareth from all of us at Wiveliscombe Fire Station, very well deserved!

Last night during our weekly Drill, members of the Wiveliscombe Fire Station completed their Annual fitness test under the watchful eye of a Fire Service Fitness Instructor.

It’s important as an On-Call Firefighter to maintain high standard of fitness throughout the year. The incidents we respond to are often physically demanding and require Stamina, Grit and Power!
