YOUR COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU #🫵

Woburn Parish Council aims to foster a safer environment for our community with the implementation of Community Speed Watch. This community-operated feedback scheme empowers dedicated unpaid volunteers to officially monitor and report the details of speeding vehicles in specific areas that are causing concern to our community. By collaborating with the local police, we work towards reducing speeding incidents and promoting road safety. Please note that Speed Watch is not an enforcement measure, but rather an initiative to address the issue of speeding in our community. Together, we can make our streets safer for everyone.
Come and Join Us.
We are currently seeking Volunteers, aged 18 and above, to join us at Woburn Speed Watch.
The Speed Watch programme will only operate in 20, 30, and 40mph areas during daylight hours and dry weather.
As part of our commitment to our Volunteers, we provide high visibility tabards for their use and to ensure visibility.
To guarantee operational consistency and roadside safety, all Volunteers must undergo formal training. Training can be completed either with the Police or a Police-approved trainer who is annually authorised by the Force Speed Watch Lead. We do not require Volunteers to undergo any form of Police checks or exclude individuals who have prior convictions or penalties related to motoring offenses.
However, please be aware that the Police reserve the right to reject or remove potential Volunteers from Speed Watch without providing an explanation. During training, Volunteers will be asked to disclose any circumstances that could potentially harm the reputation of the scheme. They will also receive guidance to ensure their actions as members of Speed Watch are always appropriate.

Our Speedwatch co-ordinator is Cllr. Helen Fisher. Feel free to reach out to her.

HGVs - there’s a HGV limit in Woburn and it’s the responsibility of Bedfordshire Police to enforce it.

We wrote to the Chief Constable and the Police and Crime Commissioner alongside Husbourne Crawley Parish Council, John Baker: In touch with Aspley & Woburn and Bedford Estates

We provided clear evidence of breaches.

Bedfordshire Police wrote back to say there are not going to bother with Woburn - Too unimportant until someone is hurt. You can read their response below:

The current proposal is to set Woburn Parish Council at 7 councillors but make no changes to area or name.
