Healthy Life Expectancy (HLE) measures how many years we can expect to live in good health, free from limiting illness or disabilities that can start in old age.
But the length of healthy life expectancy isn't the same for everyone in the county.
People living in areas of higher deprivation can experience 20 fewer years in good health than those living in the least deprived communities.
Access to green space, safe neighbourhoods, good transport – all help to create opportunities to be physically active.
The more physically active someone is – the longer their healthy life expectancy becomes.
That's why targeted work in Place is so important.
By reducing barriers to physical activity and creating healthier environments, we can help more people live longer, healthier lives.
