It was great to welcome a full year group to our Winston family today.
All the children arrived on time, which of course means that they can be on time every day.
They looked so smart in their new uniform and gradually took the day in their stride, including an assembly and three lessons! Mrs Turner, Year Leader, was very impressed with their entry into assembly and provided an further introduction to Winston, with very clear expectations.
They have been supported to find their way around the school by their peer mentors, who have been absolutely outstanding, and they enjoyed their first lunch, with the majority of the year group opting for a lovely roast chicken dinner.
Here is just a few images of Year 7 during their first day at Winston!

As we approached the end of another fantastic school year, our Year 10 students, dance captains and Development Mentors organised and delivered three exciting workshops designed to help students brush up on their acting, singing, and dancing skills.
The workshops provided a brilliant opportunity for students from across the school to build their confidence, learn new techniques, and develop their performance abilities in a fun and supportive environment. Our student 10 leaders showed excellent teamwork, enthusiasm, and dedication as they planned and led activities, sharing their knowledge and passion for the performing arts with younger students.

It was inspiring to see so many students get involved, challenge themselves, and embrace new creative experiences. A huge thank you to our Year 10 students, dance captains and Development Mentors for their hard work in making these workshops such a success.
We would also like to congratulate our Year 8 students who took part in the Netflix Competition this year. The standard of work was incredibly impressive, and we are proud of the creativity, effort, and commitment shown by everyone involved. A special well done to all of our competition winners. Your hard work, energy, and determination have been outstanding, and you should be incredibly proud of your achievements.

As we reach the end of the academic year, we would like to thank all our students for their enthusiasm and dedication. We look forward to seeing even more success, creativity, and talent on display next year! 🎭🎤💃

This week, members of our Eco and Wellbeing Club enjoyed an inspiring educational walk on Chobham Common, led by Michael Jones, Education Officer for the Thames Basin Heaths Partnership. As they explored the heath, students learned why this rare habitat is so significant to Britain’s natural heritage, discovering how centuries of grazing, controlled fires and open‑land traditions have shaped the landscape we see today.

Along the way they spotted a variety of wildlife, including a buzzard, some rare butterflies, and hoverflies as well as a rich variety of plants and trees. Some of them were even brave enough to hold a spider!

After months of rehearsals and preparation, 80 students and 8 staff set off on our much-anticipated Music Tour to the Netherlands. Across five unforgettable days we performed three public concerts, explored some of the country's most iconic locations and, as always, made memories that will last a lifetime.

Thank you to every student who joined us.
You performed three outstanding concerts in extremely hot conditions, represented The Winston Churchill School with pride and consistently impressed everyone you met. Throughout the week we received countless compliments from members of the public, hostel staff, coach drivers and concert audiences about how polite, respectful and helpful you were.
You should all be enormously proud of yourselves. You made this year's Music Tour one to remember.

Our Year 9 Hospitality and Catering students got a taste of what their final practical exam could look like last week. Working to a realistic brief, they were challenged to create dishes suitable for either a restaurant, bistro or food truck setting. The standard was extremely high, with students producing a range of impressive dishes. The experience gave them valuable insight into the expectations and format of their final assessment. Congratulations to Mason, who was awarded the MasterChef class award title for his outstanding practical work!

This week, students were on a roll as they baked and filled their own Swiss rolls. They showed excellent knowledge of aeration techniques, rolling and decorating skills. Well done to everyone for a sweet success! 🍰👏

Our final Cooking Club activity was to create weird and wonderful loaded hot dogs. Some of the flavours we tested were : Lemon, Pizza, Biltong and Chutney, Cereal and Honey, mozzarella and avocado, spicy crisps and cream cheese, classic American-style loaded dogs and more. A huge thank you everyone who has made the Cooking Club a huge success this year, I cannot wait to see what we cook up next year.

Our new Year 9 cohort recently enjoyed an exciting introduction to Commedia dell'Arte, exploring the famous masked characters and performance styles of this influential theatrical tradition.
Using our specialist Commedia masks, students brought iconic characters to life while learning about their origins and distinctive traits. Through creativity, physical theatre, and plenty of laughter, students discovered how these centuries-old characters remain just as entertaining and relevant today.
A fantastic start to the year, full of energy!
