Police Care UK chief executive Geoff Cheshire was honoured to take to the Oscar Kilo UK Conference stage for a panel discussion on the impact of police reforms on officers and staff.

Geoff was joined in the debate by National Police Chiefs' Council chair Gavin Stephens and National Police Wellbeing Service director Andy Rhodes OBE.

“Some great evidence of joined up thinking emerging across policing, external partners and charities, to help improve and enhance wellbeing and trauma support for all members of the policing community,” he commented.

Volunteers Dax Byrne-Turner and Matt Manwaring hosted a Police Care UK awareness stand at the two-day event in Crewe earlier this week, while Police Care UK chair of trustees Ravi Rana was also among the guests.

When Matt Bridgman steps on the line for Sunday’s 10-mile Great South Run in Portsmouth, he is doing so for UK police who ‘face some of the most difficult and traumatic things that happen in society' on a daily basis

Matt acknowledged he had unresolved Complex-PTSD in 2025 and it was support from Police Care UK that helped him get his life back on track for a brighter 2026.

“The job is truly unique in the demands it places on someone's personal life in terms of the time and headspace the role demands,” he says.

“Sometimes all those factors take a toll that is too great for a person to process without help. That is where Police Care UK come in.”

Chris Leyden experienced life as a paratrooper when he was one of 470 people to take on the Paras' 10 in Catterick on September 26 to raise money for Police Care UK.

The event replicates the first event of the Parachute Regiment’s P Company Test Week for selection and saw Chris march the undulating 10 mile course - carrying a 15kg bergen - in three hours and four minutes.

Ill-health retirement can affect health, income and family life at once. A new Police Care UK initiative is there to help when life is turned upside down by trauma.

We’ve recently completed a successful pilot of our new online Ill-Health Retirement Support Programme as we prepare for a formal launch of the service in January 2027.

The six-session course offers structured, small-group support to serving and veteran members of the police community who are considering, going through or have completed ill-health retirement.

IHR can close one chapter without showing someone where the next begins. No one should be left to find that route alone.

September has been a busy month for our Engagement Team.

We had Police Care UK Champion Trevor Keenan at the NARPO Conference; our Clinical Team launching the Superintendent Preparedness Programme at the Police Superintendents' Association Conference; and, volunteers Gary Mackie and Gerry Canning at the British Transport Police Conference.

We're looking to expand our team of volunteers to help raise awareness of our work helping mitigate the impact of harm experienced in policing.

Fallen officers were remembered and honoured at this year’s National Police Memorial Day service held in Belfast on Sunday

Director of Development Ian Vallance and Engagement Officer Dave Blundell were privileged to represent Police Care UK at the event, where they met National Police Chaplain Reverend Matthew Hopley, pictured.

Police Care UK trustee and chair of the Police Federation for Northern Ireland, Liam Kelly, read out the names of the eight officers to have lost their lives in the line of duty during the past 12 months.

Police Care UK’s trauma-informed Superintendent Preparedness Programme pilot kicks off in October across Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England, the Midlands, and southern England.

Director of Operations Tracy Hampson and Psychological Services Lead Carron Carson unveiled the programme at the Police Superintendents’ Association Conference in Stratford earlier this month.

This initiative combines tutorials, workshops, and mentoring to support aspiring and new superintendents with their move into senior leadership.

Developed by Police Care UK’s Clinical Team with input from Dr Noreen Tehrani, it prepares officers for the psychological, relational and organisational demands of the job.
