Finchampstead Memorial Park New Play Area!

Finchampstead Parish Council is delighted to announce the opening of the brand-new play area at Finchampstead Memorial Park, providing an exciting and vibrant space for local children and families to enjoy.

The previous play area had served the community well for many years but had become tired and outdated. It has now been completely transformed with colourful, modern equipment offering a range of exciting play experiences for children of different ages and abilities.

The project was fully funded by Finchampstead Parish Council through Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funds from local development, meaning the improvements could be delivered without using the general precept.

We’ve already received some wonderful feedback from families:

“I love the trampoline because you can jump really high.”
“Can we come back tomorrow mummy?”
“The old park was fun, but this one is way more exciting.”
“What an amazing new play park – a big thank you to the Parish Council. Our grandchildren are so excited to come over next weekend to have a swing and a climb”
“We were there twice over the weekend – a much needed and really good improvement.”

We hope local families enjoy the new play area for many years to come.

Project to Improve the Old ‘War Memorial’ Junction

Finchampstead Parish Council is delighted to report that the white lining and ‘SLOW’ carriageway markings at the junction have now been refreshed by Wokingham Borough Council’s Traffic Management Team.

These works form part of the interim safety measures requested by the Parish Council while longer-term improvements to the junction continue to be developed.

A meeting between Finchampstead Parish Council and Wokingham Borough Council is scheduled for 16th March to discuss the current proposals, anticipated timelines and the next steps for progressing the scheme.

The Parish Council remains committed to progressing this matter and will continue to keep residents informed as further information becomes available.

An update from Finchampstead Parish Council on the old War Memorial Junction.

All roads in the parish are the sole legal responsibility of Wokingham Borough Council (WBC). While WBC Highways data has consistently indicated that the junction is safe and not a priority for remodelling, Finchampstead Parish Council has continued to challenge this position, including offering to fully fund suitable safety improvements that would not require large scale engineering works.

Following increasing levels of concern raised by the Parish Council, local Borough Councillors and residents, WBC has now agreed to review additional local information on recent accidents and is preparing options to discuss with the Parish Council.

When further information becomes available, it will be shared via the Parish Council website. Ultimately, responsibility for resolving this issue rests with Wokingham Borough Council.

The old ‘War Memorial’ Junction is an ancient meeting place of trackways, dating back to long before the age of the car. It was never built to cope with the weight, volume and speed of modern traffic and, like very many other old road junctions, would not be built in such a fashion today. The la...
