🌟 Introducing Our New Mini Mayor – Isobel! 🌟

We’re delighted to introduce you to our new Mini Mayor, Isobel! 👑✨

Isobel attends Hawthorn School in Wokingham and will be joining Mayor Alwyn Jones at a number of town events throughout the year, and will have the opportunity to learn more about the work of Wokingham Town Council. 🏛️💫

And, of course, every Mini Mayor needs the perfect outfit! 👗👑 Isobel will be wearing a replica version of the Mayor’s ceremonial outfit when she joins the Mayor at events.

Mayor Alwyn Jones said:

“Isobel is delightful, and I’m really looking forward to having her accompany me at some of our wonderful town events. Choosing a Mini Mayor is never easy, as we always have so many fantastic young people putting their names forward. I’m delighted to have Isobel join me, and I’m really looking forward to sharing my mayoral year with her.” 😊

There's a weekend of thrill and treats in store as the Wokingham Kids World Children's Funfair hits town...featuring rides, refreshments and plenty of entertainment throughout both days, including FREE face painting on Saturday and FREE petting farm on Sunday.

An Arts Trail is an exciting event spread across a range of locations, including art studios, village halls, private homes and other unique venues. And it's FREE too!

We’ve got a fantastic day planned for Heritage Open Day as we take a journey back in time and explore Wokingham at War. 🎖️

Discover the story of the World War II generation and the communities across Wokingham who came together, supported one another and played their part during one of the most challenging periods in our history.

Find out what it was really like here during World War II
👧 Hear the stories of evacuees and the children who came to Wokingham for safety.
👩 Discover how local women supported the war effort.
🎖️ Find out which military personnel were based in Wokingham during the war.
🏠 Explore what everyday life was like on the home front – and much more!

There’ll be special enactments, arts and crafts activities for all the family, live music with a voval salute to Vera Lynn, and plenty of opportunities to discover the people and stories behind Wokingham’s wartime history. ✂️🎨

Last week, Mayor Alwyn Jones was delighted to attend the ground-breaking ceremony for a new care home on Evendons Lane, Wokingham. 🎉🏗️

During his visit, the Mayor toured the site and had the opportunity to review the plans with representatives from Boutique Care Homes and the development team.

The new care home is currently planned to open in March 2028. 🏡✨

The plans look fantastic, with a thoughtfully designed home and plenty of beautiful outdoor space for residents to enjoy. 🌳🌿

It’s exciting to see this project getting underway and to see the plans for a new care home that will become part of the Wokingham community. 💙

We look forward to watching the development take shape over the coming years! 🚧👏

WOKINGHAM - THE ESCAPE ROOM ADVENTURE! 😮🤔🕵‍♂️🕵‍♀️

Looking for somethinng to do this summer?
How about trying the Wokingham Outdoor Escape Room Adventure?

We love it as it's not only fun, but gives you a chance to explore the town, our history and discover new things!

So what is it....
👉The game is played all around Wokingham town centre, is around 1.5 miles long (approx. 2,300 steps) and takes about 2 hours (although players can take breaks at anytime)☕️🍰🍺🥪

✉️❔️❔️A message from a distant relative plunges you into a quest to solve a centuries old mystery hidden within Wokingham.
❓️Escape Route: Order of the Oak blends puzzle-solving, route finding and mystery story🕵‍♂️

🔎🧭🗺Players use their surroundings to solve interactive puzzles on their phone at each location, and find their way from puzzle-to-puzzle by following trails of visual clues🔍🔍🔍

A team can consist of up to 6 players and each player can use their own phone or share with others.

🥔🫘 A bumper summer harvest at the Westende Garden! 🌞🌱

The school holidays may be here, but there's still plenty to do in the garden! A small group of children, parents and Wokingham in Bloom volunteers recently rolled up their sleeves to tend the Westende garden. 💚🌼

There were weeds to pull, plants to water and plenty of jobs to keep everyone busy... but the rewards made it all worthwhile! 🙌

This time, it was potatoes 🥔 and runner beans 🫘 in abundance, with lots of fresh produce ready to be picked and enjoyed.

One of our Bloom volunteers summed it up perfectly:

"You never get tired of seeing the children digging up potatoes or discovering just how much their vegetables have grown. Their squeals of excitement and smiling faces say it all!" 😊❤️

"The gardening club is about so much more than gardening. We're helping children connect with nature, learn where food comes from, build confidence and, of course, have lots of fun along the way!" 🌻🍅🌿

A huge thank you to everyone who continues to help care for the garden over the summer holidays. Your hard work is helping it flourish! 👏💚

🌼🌿You don't need to be green fingered to volunteer for Wokingham in Bloom There are always lots of jobs across our sites that need doing so all that's needed is a love of being outdoors.

Some of our volunteers like to be creative, some like to dig, some like being part of something within a chatty group of people, some like to be simply outside around other people 🌸

No experience is nrecessary. We are particularly looking for volunteers for Langborough Wildlife Garden and Howard Palmer Gardens. If interested, please contact: [email protected] and a member will get in touch.
