We’re incredibly proud of Destiny, one of our Young Experts, who has created a Black hair care & skin guide for foster carers. 🤩

Destiny has used her own experiences to help carers better understand how to support Black children and young people with their hair and skin – something practical that can have a huge impact on how a young person feels about themselves. 🪞

These practical skills will help children and young people feel valued, confident in who they are and cared for by someone who has taken the time to learn what they need.

It’s exactly why we work alongside care-experienced young people – so we can learn and understand their experiences and keep improving. ❤️

We're using a new treatment to help you get a grip on our roads. 🛞

Retexturing is where we blast the carriageway with high-pressure water or metal shot to rough it up again.

Surfaces can get worn down over time, and bitumen can rise to swallow the pieces of stone embedded in it. 🚗

This treatment restores a road using a fraction of the energy and materials required for a full resurfacing.

It's going on throughout September and you can check which streets we'll be treating on our website. 🌐

This is part of our annual maintenance programme, which also includes resurfacing, surface dressing and footway sealing.

Like all councils, we have to spend resources wisely and prioritise investing in areas that need it most.

Our annual maintenance programme is carried out in partnership with Volker Highways.

Building for the Future Wokingham - Play, Support & Therapy has opened the doors to The Treehouse, a new centre supporting disabled children, young adults and their families. 🌲

The move comes after the charity outgrew its previous home in Wokingham and marks an exciting new chapter in its nearly 20 years of supporting local families.

The new centre, located on the outskirts of Reading within Wokingham Borough, offers sensory and soft play areas, specialist equipment, outdoor space and dedicated facilities designed to help children and young people build confidence, independence and life skills. It also includes BftF Plus, a space supporting young adults with physical disabilities and complex additional needs. 🩷

Founder and CEO Jane Holmes said the aim was to create “somewhere that families could come and feel completely at home”.

The charity is already seeing high demand for its services and is fundraising to expand its activities and create additional outdoor sensory and wellbeing spaces.

The Treehouse supports families from across Berkshire and provides a supportive environment where children and young people can thrive while parents and carers connect with others who understand their experiences.

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this fantastic new facility to life and supporting families across Berkshire. 👏

Meet the w**d boat 🌿

Every year, we cut back excess aquatic w**d on lakes across the borough, including at Dinton Pastures Country Park, to help keep them healthy for wildlife and visitors.

The specialist boat clears the w**d from the water before it is collected on shore and transferred into a trailer.

This year, like the last few, we’ve needed to remove less than before. That is an encouraging sign that the lake is finding its natural balance.

The work is carried out for us by Weedcutter.co.uk, whose specialist team travels across the country doing exactly this.

Huge congratulations to Hayley and Ben, who tied the knot at Dinton Pastures Country Park last Saturday! 🤵👰

The happy couple said their vows in the beautiful events field, with the ceremony led by our fantastic Registrars Team. 💖

As if getting married wasn't enough excitement for one day, they also completed Dinton Pastures parkrun that morning, with Hayley celebrating her milestone 25th run. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

What an unforgettable day. Wishing Hayley and Ben a lifetime of love, laughter and happiness together. 🥂✨

Residents can now enjoy a new waymarked walking route across Lower Earley.🚶

The 3.5-mile route runs from Loddon Bridge to Shinfield Road, taking walkers through woodland, meadows and parkland, including Pearman's Copse, Swallow's Meadow and the Wood of Eagles.

The trail has been signposted by the Loddon Valley Ramblers, with support from Earley Town Council and volunteers from the Earley Environment Group, helping more people discover this mostly traffic-free route across Lower Earley.

Route directions can be downloaded from the Loddon Valley Ramblers website by selecting Footpaths and then Lower Earley Corridor. 🌳

A33 at Swallowfield closed for resurfacing tonight and tomorrow night! 🚧

We'll be closing the road from 8pm to 6am overnight this evening (Friday 28 August) and again at the same times tomorrow (Saturday 29 August).

This is to remove the old surface and lay a new one as part of this year's borough-wide roads and footways maintenance programme. 👷

A diversion will be in place.

We've finished all our footway sealing and surface dressing treatments and will be finishing most of our planned resurfacing in September.

We're also going to carry out retexturing, where we blast a worn and smoothed surface with water or metal shot to improve its grip for tyres. 🛞
