Rail replacement buses will be serving Wokingham, Winnersh, Winnersh Triangle and Earley stations all weekend (30 and 31 May). 🚌

This is due to maintenance on the lines between Bracknell and Reading, affecting South Western Railway and GWR services. 🚆

Refurbishment works are also being carried out on Earley station footbridge today (Saturday). 🔧

Earley station car park will still be closed on Monday (1 June) and will have 20 fewer spaces on Tuesday.

You can plan your journey using Network Rail's online planner.

Today is the day for the opening of the new link road in South Wokingham. 🚗

It will take you from Waterloo Road to Easthampstead Road.

The road will be open by 6pm latest, but may open earlier this afternoon (29 May) if the crews are running ahead of schedule.

The link road is part of our South Wokingham Distributor Road (SWDR) project and will have a 30mph speed limit, with shared pedestrian and cycle facilities. 🚴

It joins the central section of the SWDR, which is still under construction. The distributor road will run between Finchampstead Road and Waterloo Road when complete.

At the other end of the link road, it joins Easthampstead Road at the existing junction with Heathlands Road, with a new traffic light-controlled junction. 🚦

Social Care Future is about everyone living in a place they call home, doing the things that matter to them, in communities where we look out for one another.

Colin lives in a supported living house in Wokingham Borough run by Optalis (adult social care and support services), one of our partners. Before moving there in May 2025, he'd lost confidence doing things independently.

Now everything has changed.

"When I moved I wanted independence. I'm now walking to the supermarket on my own. I go three times a week and have a coffee. I like it, I like being free."

He wears an Oysta tracker that makes him feel safe, works at a local charity shop, goes to Friday night discos with friends, and cooks healthy meals for himself and his housemates.

He's also become a confident public speaker. Recently, he spoke to parents and young adults at CLASP about supported living.

"I was a bit nervous but I smashed it really. After I finished talking everyone clapped."

Colin's story shows what becomes possible when someone has the right home and the right support.

Binderella is ready for the ball - are you? 😅

The borough’s shiny and new waste vehicles are getting ready to go into action on Monday (1 June). And everything you need to know for your collections. 🚛

The borough’s new contract with Biffa starts next week and the key things to know are:
- collection days are same as normal unless you’ve been told otherwise
- collection time may be different as we’re using new, more efficient routes
- recycle as much as possible, especially food waste
- put your bins out the night before (or by 6.30am)
- report missed collections on the website at any time of day and real-time data will show if crews have visited your property or not
- if you use garden waste sacks, book them for collection
- labels your containers (wheeled bin, food caddy and recycling bags)
- thank your crews
- bear with us while contractors swap over and we try to minimise disruption

We've approved plans for new buildings to create extra Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND) school places. 🙌

The Bulmershe School in Woodley and Keep Hatch Primary School in Wokingham will see investment to create 40 additional places for SEND pupils.

Both will be resource bases, where students divide their time between mainstream classes with mainstream teachers, and dedicated specialist support in the base, with specialist staff and spaces. 🎒

There will be 25 spaces created with a new building at Bulmershe School, to provide specialist support for students with cognition and learning needs.

The building contains one larger classroom for whole-group teaching, several smaller classrooms and resource rooms, small-group and sensory/intervention spaces, as well as a kitchen and life skills area.

Approved plans also include space for 15 pupils at Keep Hatch Primary School, with a single-storey building to provide specialist support for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.

The building provides three teaching spaces, a calm/sensory room, toilets, staff areas, storage and a secure outdoor learning environment.

Get ready for a party like no other. 🤩

Party in the Park is back at Elms Field on Saturday 6 June, with free entry and a brand new line-up of entertainment.

Join the fun from 3pm with Thinking Out Loud, an Ed Sheeran tribute act, followed by The Dua Lipa Experience. 🎵

Oasis Supernova will perform songs from the Britpop era, before Seven finish the evening with a mix of pop, rock, soul and funk. 🎸

There'll be street food available, but you can bring your own picnic and enjoy the fun. 🍔

The event is organised by Wokingham Town Council and we'd advise using public transport as the town centre will be busy.

With the continued hot weather, bin collections start earlier for the next few days! Please share to help crews. What you need to do. 👇

Collections will start one hour earlier at 5.30am on:
- Wednesday 27 May
- Thursday 28 May

Starting earlier in the day helps our teams avoid the worst of the heat. 🥵

Here’s how you can help ✅
- Put your bins out the night before
- Make sure containers are clearly visible and accessible by 5.30am
- Seal food waste in bags and keep the lid closed to reduce smells and deter pests

Remember: your food waste bin is collected every week, making it the quickest way to get rid of food scraps! 💡

Thanks for helping our crews keep safe and cool! 😎
