A small team of RAF Police from 605 Sqn Reserves recently provided Law Enforcement activity, to support RAF Shawbury RAFP Flt, delivering security and assurance patrols, at their annual Families Day event.
Tasks included the enforcement of event access requirements, safeguarding of attendees, high profile counter terrorist sweeps and maintaining public order. Furthermore, personnel actively engaged with the local community, ensuring a safe and successful event, was enjoyed by all.
This engagement delivers valuable real-world training and leverages Reservists' civilian skill sets — particularly those in event policing.
Ultimately, success relies on seamless radio interoperability, clear unified briefings between Regular and Reserve elements, and striking the right balance between high-visibility security and approachable, family-friendly public engagement.
