A Wolverhampton patient is raising awareness of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and encouraging others living with the life-limiting condition to stay positive.

Robert George, from Pendeford, had always led an active lifestyle – having played squash competitively for more than three decades.

Day-to-day he battles against fatigue and shortness of breath – even finding walking up stairs to be a challenge. Despite this, he has adapted his habits while under the care of The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust’s Respiratory Team.

A prostate cancer patient is sharing how staying active helped him through surgery, radiotherapy and hormone therapy as part of Urology Awareness Month.

Ian Taylor, was diagnosed with prostate cancer on 1 March 2024 before undergoing a radical prostatectomy in December at New Cross Hospital.

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK.

Bowel cancer screening uses a test called a faecal immunochemical test (FIT) to look for blood in a sample of your poo. This could be a sign of bowel cancer.

You collect the sample at home and send it by post to be tested.

It can help find cancer early, and before you have any symptoms, which may mean it's easier to treat.

If you're aged 50 to 74 and registered with a GP, you'll automatically get a bowel cancer screening home test kit (FIT kit) through the post every 2 years.

If you think you're eligible for bowel cancer screening but you've not been invited, or had your test kit, call the bowel cancer screening helpline on 0800 707 6060.

What a lovely thing to do for our young patients ❤️

Children and young people living with long-term health conditions have been enjoying new experiences through a series of adventure days organised by The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Charity.

Living with conditions such as type 1 diabetes, epilepsy and respiratory illnesses can bring daily challenges and, at times, leave young people feeling isolated.

To help address this, Your RWT Charity, the registered charity for RWT, alongside Youth Worker Brian Rhodes, organised a trip to Go Ape in Cannock for ten children and young people receiving care from the Trust.

The day allowed families to come together, take on new challenges and enjoy an exciting day of adventure.

Patients and staff in Wolverhampton and Walsall will benefit from the rollout of new digital Ambient Voice Technology (AVT), which helps clinicians better focus on their consultations.

The technology listens securely to patient consultations and automatically generates structured clinical notes, which are reviewed, edited where necessary and approved before being added to the patient’s record.

People are invited to The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust’s Annual General meeting (AGM) being held on Wednesday 30 September at 10.45am in the WMI Lecture Theatre at New Cross Hospital.

Guests are encouraged to come and find out more about the Trust’s achievements and challenges over the past 12 months, hear from our community and look ahead to what the next year holds.

They can also visit the marketplace of stands that we create outside the lecture theatre. Teams from our hospital and community services will be showcasing the innovation and improvement that is making a difference to our patients as well as within our workplace.

Our Chief Executive, Joe Chadwick-Bell, will look back over the last 12 months and the Trust’s Annual Report and Accounts will be presented. A question and answer session will also be offered.

Families came together for Summer Fair fun at Wolverhampton's Gem Centre, raising more than £450 to support ongoing improvements at the specialist hub which is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Community Services at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust joined forces with its charity, Your RWTC, to raise funds for enhancements that will further improve the experience of children, young people and families using the centre.
