Due to the persistent hot temperatures across the past few days and the significant impact these have had on our operational teams working outdoors, we have taken the difficult decision to suspend some waste collection services in parts of the district today.

The welfare and safety of our staff will always be our priority when weather conditions present significant challenges for crews.

This suspension primarily affects rounds in the south of the district, including Kesgrave, Nacton, Woodbridge, Kirton, Martlesham, Little Bealings, Rushmere St Andrew, Bucklesham, Purdis Farm and Foxhall.

Households that do not receive a collection in these locations today are advised to leave their bins on the kerbside and crews will endeavour to catch up tomorrow and on Monday.

Priority will be given to general and garden waste collections; therefore, if your recycling containers are not emptied by close of play on Monday, please store for collection on your next scheduled date.

Food waste collections which are not completed will also take place on the next scheduled date and households are advised to either place this waste in your residual bin, or store in your large caddy, with the handle locked up, until your next collection.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.

A big thank you to our street cleansing teams, who have recommenced washing the areas most affected by kittiwake guano in Lowestoft this week.

Their efforts help improve the local environment for residents, businesses and visitors while supporting the council's approach during the nesting season.

We're pleased to announce that we have recommenced washing areas impacted by kittiwake guano in Lowestoft.

This week, our street cleansing teams have been focusing on the locations most impacted by mess. Our full programme of washing all public areas affected by kittiwake guano will be running again next week, including twice-daily weekday cleans and weekend cleaning in the most impacted areas.

The pressure washing service is one of our commitments to supporting residents, businesses and visitors to coexist with Lowestoft’s rare colony of kittiwakes. Kittiwakes are red-listed species, classed as vulnerable to extinction. Lowestoft is home to one of the UK's most significant urban nesting populations.

We'd also like to thank local organisations, businesses and residents for the additional cleaning efforts they have been making to help manage the gap in service.

We're sharing this important advice from Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service regarding the ongoing wildfire at Dunwich Heath.

Please take a moment to read and follow the guidance to help reduce the risk of further fires and protect our local communities, wildlife and countryside.

We'd also like to thank all those involved in the response, and we're proud of the East Suffolk Services colleagues who have stepped forward to support local fire crews during this incident.

The work is demanding and often behind the scenes, but it makes a real difference.

Thank you to everyone working to keep Suffolk safe.

Due to the ongoing nature and seriousness of the fire at Dunwich Heath, we are strongly urging the public to avoid visiting Dunwich Beach and the surrounding areas.

We understand that the warm weather makes a trip to the coast very appealing, but for everyone's safety we are asking people to stay away from the area at this time.

It is essential that the area and surrounding roads are kept clear to allow emergency services to carry out their work safely and effectively, and to help protect members of the public.

When out enjoying Suffolk's beautiful countryside, please continue to follow our safety advice and help us by:

🚭 Disposing of ci******es and matches safely and never throwing them from a vehicle.
🚗 Avoiding parking on dry grass, as hot exhausts can quickly ignite vegetation.
🔥 Not using disposable barbecues unless they are permitted in a designated area, and ensuring they are fully extinguished after use.
❌ Not lighting fires in the countryside or other unsuitable locations. Bonfires can wait, and fire pits are best avoided during these dry conditions.

If you see a fire in the open:

📞 Get to a safe distance and call 999.
📍 Use the free what3words app to provide an accurate location to the emergency services.

A few simple precautions can make a huge difference in protecting Suffolk's countryside, communities and wildlife.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
