🔥 Smelling smoke around North Devon today?

We’re getting reports of a smell of smoke across North Devon, but there are currently no known incidents locally. It’s believed the smoke is being carried across from the ongoing wildfire in South Wales.

There’s no need to call us just for the smell, but if you can see smoke, flames or other signs of a fire, please call 999.

Thanks for staying alert and helping us keep our crews available for where they’re needed. 🚒

This week the crew were out with the 9-metre ladder, practising standard, over-obstruction and confined space ladder pitches to keep our skills fresh and ready for when the call comes. 💪🔥

A big Woolacombe welcome to Firefighter Nick Rutherford, who has recently joined our on-call crew! 👏🎉

When he’s not responding to emergencies, Nick is a keen surfer 🏄‍♂️ and DJ 🎧. In fact, his passion for fire engines goes beyond the station—he even owns a former fire engine that he’s transformed into a unique mobile DJ stage! 🚒🎶

We’re delighted to have Nick as part of the Woolacombe team and look forward to working alongside him as he settles into his new role. 💪

☀️ Another hot week ahead across North Devon, and we know many of you will be heading to the beach, enjoying the countryside, or making the most of the coast paths around Woolacombe and Mortehoe 😎🌊

We’re incredibly lucky to live, work and holiday in such a beautiful part of the world — from Woolacombe Beach and Barricane to the surrounding countryside and moorland 🌿❤️

As the temperatures rise, please help us keep our community and environment safe by following a few simple tips:

🥪 Leave the BBQ at home and pack a picnic instead
🔥 No campfires, fire pits or bonfires on the beach or in the countryside
🚭 Make sure ci******es are fully extinguished and disposed of properly
🧴 Take your litter home with you, especially glass bottles
🚗 Avoid parking on dry grass where hot exhausts can accidentally start fires

Wildfires and outdoor fires can spread incredibly quickly in dry conditions, putting wildlife, local communities and emergency services at risk🐑🐄🦔

If you see a fire, call 999 immediately and, if possible, use the what3words app to help emergency services find you quickly 📍

International Firefighters Memorial Day ❤️🔥

Today we recognise firefighters across the world, those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and those who continue to serve their communities every day. 🌍🚒

Here at Woolacombe, we’re proud to be an on-call station. Our crew are part of the community in every sense, balancing day jobs, family life and everything in between, until the alerter sounds. 🔔

When it does, they respond. That might mean leaving work mid-task, stepping away from the dinner table 🍽️, or turning out in the early hours 🌙

It’s not always seen, and it’s not always easy, but it is a commitment that makes a real difference when it matters most. 💙

We’re grateful for the continued support from our community 🙌 It’s what allows us to keep doing what we do.
