Woolacombe Fire Station provides fire and rescue services for Woolacombe and the surrounding area. Woolacombe Fire Station is an on-call fire station.

This means we are crewed entirely by local residents, each of whom carries an alerter and can be ready to respond to a wide variety of emergencies at a moment's notice. We are also a co-responder station. If a medical emergency occurs we can be called upon by the ambulance service to provide medical assistance until an ambulance arrives. We have 7 personnel:

☀️ Another hot week ahead across North Devon, and we know many of you will be heading to the beach, enjoying the countryside, or making the most of the coast paths around Woolacombe and Mortehoe 😎🌊

We’re incredibly lucky to live, work and holiday in such a beautiful part of the world — from Woolacombe Beach and Barricane to the surrounding countryside and moorland 🌿❤️

As the temperatures rise, please help us keep our community and environment safe by following a few simple tips:

🥪 Leave the BBQ at home and pack a picnic instead
🔥 No campfires, fire pits or bonfires on the beach or in the countryside
🚭 Make sure ci******es are fully extinguished and disposed of properly
🧴 Take your litter home with you, especially glass bottles
🚗 Avoid parking on dry grass where hot exhausts can accidentally start fires

Wildfires and outdoor fires can spread incredibly quickly in dry conditions, putting wildlife, local communities and emergency services at risk🐑🐄🦔

If you see a fire, call 999 immediately and, if possible, use the what3words app to help emergency services find you quickly 📍

International Firefighters Memorial Day ❤️🔥

Today we recognise firefighters across the world, those who have lost their lives in the line of duty, and those who continue to serve their communities every day. 🌍🚒

Here at Woolacombe, we’re proud to be an on-call station. Our crew are part of the community in every sense, balancing day jobs, family life and everything in between, until the alerter sounds. 🔔

When it does, they respond. That might mean leaving work mid-task, stepping away from the dinner table 🍽️, or turning out in the early hours 🌙

It’s not always seen, and it’s not always easy, but it is a commitment that makes a real difference when it matters most. 💙

We’re grateful for the continued support from our community 🙌 It’s what allows us to keep doing what we do.

Yesterday, crews from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to a fire in the open in the Berrynarbor area of North Devon. 🌿🔥

Firefighters from Woolacombe, Ilfracombe Fire Station, Barnstaple Fire Station, Braunton Fire Station and Lynton Fire Station attended alongside supporting officers, using pumping appliances, an Argo Cat, and water-spraying backpacks to tackle a heathland/moorland fire. 🚒💦

This was hard, physical work for crews due to the challenging terrain — steep hills, thick gorse, and deep-rooted vegetation all made access and extinguishing the fire more difficult. Incidents like this require a significant number of personnel to work across the ground, create fire breaks, and fully extinguish hotspots. 👨‍🚒💪🌾

Adding to the challenge, some of our firefighters even came face-to-face with a rather large bull 🐂 — a reminder that we’re not the only ones out there, and that wildlife and livestock can be directly affected by fires like this.

Thanks to a coordinated effort and strong teamwork, the fire was brought under control safely. 👏

As we move into warmer, drier weather, please take extra care in the countryside. Avoid open flames, dispose of smoking materials responsibly, and report any signs of fire early by calling 999. 🔥🚫

Last night’s drill night at Woolacombe Fire Station was a busy one 💪🚒

Crews got stuck into a full mix of operational training, including setting up a realistic fire ground, Breathing Apparatus (BA) drills to sharpen up branch techniques, pumping and ladder work, plus some valuable incident command practice 💦🔥

As we’ve now got more new recruits on our crew, we even had enough people to be live casualties for search and rescue scenarios in BA, working together to locate and safely handle a casualty – always a great test of teamwork and communication 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

It’s nights like these that keep our skills sharp and ensure we’re ready to respond when our community needs us 📟🚨🚒

🚒 A big thank you to everyone who joined us last night for our Fire Safety Evening — it was a lovely, close-knit evening with some great conversations around keeping safe at home 🔥

We’re really grateful to the Woolacombe Village Hall Committee for the free use of the hall, to the Mortehoe & Woolacombe News for supporting us with a free advert, to SPAR Woolacombe for donating refreshments, and to our amazing community for the homemade cakes 🍰

And of course, thank you to the crew at Woolacombe who gave up their time to make it happen 👏

We’re hoping to run more events like this in the future, possibly in the autumn, so keep an eye out 👀

🚒 Smoke alarms save lives – 24th April, Hall 70, Woolacombe 🔥

You might have seen the short video on Barnstaple Fire Station’s page about having more than one smoke alarm in your home — it’s a really important message.

At our Fire Safety Evening, we’ll be sharing simple, practical advice on smoke alarms — where to fit them, how often to test them, and making sure they’ll work when you need them most 👍

We’ll also cover other key tips to help keep you and your loved ones safe at home.

It’s all relaxed and informal, with plenty of chance to chat with your local firefighters 👩‍🚒👨‍🚒

🚒 Supporting The Fire Fighters Charity – 24th April, Hall 70, Woolacombe 🔥

At our Fire Safety Information Evening, we’ll also be raising money for an incredible cause ❤️

The Fire Fighters Charity supports serving and retired firefighters, their families, and dependents — helping with things like mental health, physical rehabilitation and financial support when it’s needed most.

It’s a charity that relies entirely on donations, with many firefighters contributing themselves, and fundraising playing a huge part in keeping it going.

Several members of our crew here in Woolacombe have received help from the charity in recent years and found it hugely beneficial — so it’s something very close to home for us.

☕🍰 We’ll have tea, coffee and cake on the night, with optional donations — and if you fancy bringing along a cake to help us raise a bit more, we’d really appreciate it 🙌
