The Hive is a landmark building run in partnership between Worcestershire County Council and the University of Worcester. The Hive hosts not only an integrated public and University library service but also Worcestershire's Archive and Archaeology Service and the Worcestershire Hub, a one stop shop for enquiries on all County and District services. Featuring one of the biggest children's libraries in the country (including an innovative outdoor 'Story Island') and The Cafe run by Bellrock's catering team, providing coffee, snacks and delicious cakes, The Hive is sure to attract locals and visitors alike. Set in beautifully landscaped grounds, The Hive had been designed to provide you with an inspirational learning environment as well as a place to just 'be'.

Esther Dobson’s talk will explore how handicrafts became ingenious tools of espionage, morale, sabotage, and propaganda during the Second World War. The talk will be followed by a sewing workshop in which participants will embroider a sentimental message onto a piece of fabric.

There're only a handful of seats left for Seed Saving with the Heritage Seed Library on Thursday 22nd October 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm.

Join Worcester Community Garden for a fascinating talk and interactive workshop on the theme of seed saving in collaboration with the Heritage Seed Library (part of Garden Organic).

The Heritage Seed Library will be discussing their Sowing your Seeds project which aims to conserve, share, and safeguard rare, heirloom vegetable seeds across the Midlands. They will explore the history of their organisation and explain why preserving heirloom seeds is so vital.

The session will include the basic seed saving principles, including plant botany, preserving varieties, planning space for seed saving, population sizes and avoiding cross-pollination.

After the presentation, Worcester Community Garden and the Heritage Seed Library will lead a hands-on session for participants to prepare seeds for storage, including both wet (tomatoes) and dry(beans) techniques.

Love books but never seem to find the time to read them?

At Books Aloud, all you need to do is turn up, relax and listen. Each month we bring a carefully chosen short story or extract to life through reading aloud, followed by a friendly discussion for anyone who would like to take part. There's no reading beforehand and no pressure to contribute. Just great stories, good company and an hour to escape into another world.

This month: Stories from Joyce Carol Oates' Flint Kill Creek.
