How to help keep children safe online 📱
Keeping your child safe online can be increasingly difficult, but talking to your child is a great starting point for tackling internet safety.
Not sure where to begin?
📱 Start early: discuss internet safety with your child from an early age, studies show even primary school children experience cyberbullying and inappropriate online content.
📱 Keep communication open: let your child know they can always approach you with any concerns about what they see online.
📱 Report abuse: familiarise yourself and your child with the report abuse buttons on social platforms.
📱 Use parental controls: make use of parental control settings to block unsuitable websites or find “kids-mode” apps
📱 Look at what apps your child / young person is accessing / has downloaded and talk about what it does and who they are talking to on there.
📱 Many gaming platforms also have chat/ interactive facilities where perpetrators can connect with your child, ask who their friends are online and what they are chatting about.
