Headway Worcestershire Enjoys a Fun-Filled Summer Day at Gheluvelt Park

On a beautiful August day, Headway Worcestershire enjoyed a fantastic outing at Gheluvelt Park in Worcester with Neil from the Lawn Tennis Association.

Our clients took part in a range of activities, including tennis, safe archery, and target practice, all of which helped us build skills and confidence ahead of the next ABI Games™ 2027. For those who preferred a quieter activity, we went on a hunt for stones to decorate and paint, before hiding them around the park .......to be discovered by others.

It was wonderful to see so many families joining in with the sports and activities throughout the day. Their enthusiasm helped create a fun, inclusive atmosphere where everyone could take part, connect, and enjoy being active together.

A huge thank you to Neil for supporting the day and helping make it such a positive experience for everyone involved.

We are incredibly proud and grateful to have you as our number one advocate and champion of our charity. Your passion, enthusiasm, and unwavering support help us raise awareness of acquired brain injury and inspire so many people.

What a wonderful example of community spirit and kindness.
Thank You, Matt! 🎨💙
Headway Worcestershire would like to say a huge thank you to Matt from Townsends, a Worcestershire surveyor-led construction company who recently got in touch to ask how he could support Headway Worcestershire.
After visiting our centre and learning more about the impact of acquired brain injury, Matt very kindly offered to spend a day repainting our street-front façade. His hard work has made an incredible difference to the appearance of our building and created a welcoming environment for everyone who visits.
What touched us most was not just the painting itself, but the genuine interest and care Matt showed. He took the time to research acquired brain injury before his visit, joined our clients for lunch, and learned about the challenges many people face following a brain injury. During his research, he discovered that traumatic brain injuries (TBI) can occur within the construction industry, often as a result of falls from ladders and other workplace accidents, making our work particularly relevant to those working in the sector.
Matt, we are blown away by your kindness, generosity, and willingness to give up your time to make such a meaningful impact. People like you remind us that communities are built on compassion and support for one another.

This is such an important part of what we do at Headway Worcestershire. The ABI Games™ are all about inclusion, participation, and allowing everyone to get involved, regardless of their abilities or the support they may need.
Recently, our clients enjoyed a morning of trying new activities, including archery, axe-throwing at a bristle target, and plastic star-throwing. While some participants needed a little extra support, no one was left out, and everyone had the chance to take part, have fun, and challenge themselves in a safe, supportive environment.
Exploring new activities helps us identify opportunities to expand our programme and ensure it remains fresh, engaging, and accessible for all. With 24 events already forming part of the ABI Games™, we're always looking at ways to grow and develop the experience, and some of these activities could become exciting additions to our 2027 programme.
At Headway Worcestershire, we believe sport and activity should be for everyone, and we're proud to create opportunities where ability is celebrated, confidence grows, and no one is ever left behind.

What is an Acquired Brain Injury? 🧠

An acquired brain injury (ABI) is damage to the brain that happens after birth. It can be caused by a stroke, accident, tumour, infection, lack of oxygen, or other medical conditions.

ABI is often called a hidden disability because many of the challenges are not visible. It can affect memory, concentration, fatigue, emotions, communication, and everyday life, impacting not only survivors but also their families and carers.

At Headway Worcestershire, we're here to help people rebuild confidence, independence, and hope after brain injury.

Thank You, Emma & Anne!

Today we'd like to celebrate one of our fantastic Outreach Support Team members, Emma, whose passion for running and fundraising has made a real difference to Headway Worcestershire.

Since 2018, Emma and her sister Anne have raised nearly £3,000 through a variety of incredible challenges, helping us continue to support local people living with acquired brain injury.

Over the years, Emma has tackled some truly impressive events, including:

🏃 Race to the King – an epic 100km challenge

🏃 Race to the Stones – 50km of endurance and determination

🏃 A 90km fundraising challenge for Headway Worcestershire

🏃 Compton Verney Half Marathon

🏃 The Virtual London Marathon during Covid

🏃 Several muddy Wolf Runs, embracing every obstacle along the way!

Emma knows first-hand the value of the support Headway Worcestershire provides and is passionate about helping ensure others can access the same life-changing services. Her dedication, commitment and generosity are truly inspiring.

The good news is that she isn't stopping there. Emma is already looking forward to taking on more challenges in the years ahead and raising even more funds to support our work across Worcestershire.

Great Big Thank You!
A huge thank you to our incredible Your Adventure Challenge Paddle & Hike adventurers who took on this amazing challenge in support of Headway Worcestershire. Oliver, Lisa, Paul, Alice, Ross, Mark, Fiona, Emma, Mrs Lewis, Lucy, Ross, Dan, Holly, Steve and the guides.
What an unforgettable day! We were treated to some fantastic wildlife sightings, including three kingfishers, and Holly the dog was wonderfully chilled throughout the adventure.
The team paddled 9 miles before hiking to King Arthur’s Cave and then climbing to Symonds Yat Rock, enjoying breathtaking views along the way.
We are so grateful to everyone who took part, supported, encouraged, and sponsored us. If you would still like to donate, every penny raised goes directly to Headway Worcestershire, helping us continue supporting people living with acquired brain injuries across our community.

Important Update – ABI Games Roadshow

We are sorry; due to an issue with the venue, we have made the decision to reschedule the Headway Worcestershire ABI Games Roadshow to a more suitable location. While we are disappointed to make this change, ensuring the best possible experience, accessibility, and facilities for all participants remains our priority.

We are currently finalising the new venue details and will share the revised date and location as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support of the ABI community.

We look forward to bringing the ABI Games Roadshow to an even better venue and making it a fantastic event for everyone involved.
