Workington RNLI's volunteer crew was called out today to a 23ft day fishing boat in distress off the coast of Harrington. One person was on board the vessel, which had a rope wrapped around its propeller. Workington RNLI's all-weather lifeboat, the Dorothy May White, launched at 8am and arrived on scene at 8.10am.
The rope around the propeller could not be cut off. The crew carefully assessed whether establishing a tow was the best course of action and in the absence of a more suitable vessel, and given the risks related to the vesselโs condition and location, it was determined that towing was the best course of action.
The Dorothy May White towed the fishing boat to Harrington Marina and handed over to Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team.
The Dorothy May White returned to the station and was ready for service at 9am.
