☀️ Heat Health Alert – East Midlands ☀️

A yellow heat health alert is currently in place until 8pm on 23 June 2026.

Hot weather can affect anyone, but older people, those with long-term health conditions, and people receiving care may be more at risk.

A few simple steps can help:
💧 Drink regularly throughout the day
🪟 Keep curtains or blinds closed in sunny rooms
👕 Wear light clothing
🏠 Keep living spaces as cool as possible
🌤 Avoid the hottest part of the day where you can

At Leda Homecare, we’ll continue supporting the people we care for and keeping a close eye on anyone who may be more vulnerable during the warmer weather.

Please check in on family, friends and neighbours too 💛

How practical support can make a difference

The Carers Week 2026 report highlights that carers want more recognition, better understanding, more opportunities to connect with others, and easier access to practical support and information.

Sometimes support does not need to be complicated. It can be small, consistent and reliable.

At Leda Homecare, we can support unpaid carers by working alongside families and helping with:

• Personal care
• Medication support or prompts
• Meal and drink preparation
• Companionship
• Dementia support
• Welfare checks
• Respite visits
• Light domestic support
• Helping people maintain routines and independence

Home care does not replace family care. It helps share the load.

Whether it gives someone time to attend an appointment, go to work, rest, do the shopping, spend time with family, or simply breathe for a moment — that support can make a real difference.

This Carers Week, let’s help build a community where carers feel seen, supported and less alone.

Caring can be rewarding, but it can also be hard

Caring for someone you love can bring moments of closeness, comfort and purpose.

But it can also be exhausting, lonely and overwhelming.

The Carers Week 2026 report found that 44% of current unpaid carers do not feel their caring role is understood and valued by their community. It also found that when organisations and services are not carer friendly, this can affect carers’ mental health, physical health, finances and ability to keep working.

Unpaid carers often have to juggle appointments, medication, personal care, housework, emotional support, family life, work and their own wellbeing — often without a break.

This Carers Week, we want to remind unpaid carers:

You are not failing if you need support.
You are not letting anyone down by needing a rest.
You deserve to be recognised, listened to and supported too.

A carer friendly community starts with understanding.

Recognising unpaid carers

This Carers Week, we are recognising the millions of unpaid carers who support family members, friends and neighbours every day.

The Carers Week 2026 report estimates that 11.6 million people in the UK are currently providing unpaid care. This could include helping someone with medication, meals, appointments, personal care, emotional support, paperwork, mobility or simply being there when they are needed most.

Many unpaid carers do not always see themselves as “carers”. They may simply say, “I’m just looking after Mum,” “It’s what family does,” or “They need me.”

But caring is a vital role, and it deserves to be recognised.

This year’s Carers Week theme is Building Carer Friendly Communities — places where unpaid carers are understood, valued and supported.

At Leda Homecare, we see the difference unpaid carers make every day, and we want to say thank you. Your care, time and commitment matter.
