Cllr Emma Holland joined the estate team yesterday in Sydallt where a skip was available for tenants to use.

The rainy weather did not put people off having a good clear out and a full skip was removed at the end of the session! ♻️

Thanks to Steve Witherden for his kind comments about the Bayeaux Tapestry currently on display at Chirk Castle until the end of the month.

The Tapestry, which contains work by 3 art groups, including the Demential Art Group, supported by Cllr Frank Hemmings, will be moving to the Millennium Centre in Cardiff in September.

Really great to see collaborative local art work displayed and appreciated locally and across Wales! 🎨

👏 Standing up for children with Additional Learning Needs.

A huge well done to Cllr Dana Davies for her passionate advocacy on behalf of children, families and schools across Wrexham.

Speaking at the Lifelong Learning Scrutiny Committee last week, Dana highlighted the growing pressures facing ALN provision and the urgent need for fairer funding. Her powerful contribution received a round of applause from those in attendance – a reflection of just how strongly her message resonated.

Every child deserves the support they need to thrive, and local authorities should not be left struggling to meet increasing demand without the funding to do so. Welsh Labour has been clear that the current funding settlement is not enough and has consistently called on the Plaid Cymru-led Welsh Government to provide a sustainable, fully funded solution for ALN support.

Children with Additional Learning Needs deserve better, and we will continue to stand with our schools, families and staff in calling for the investment they need.

A Wrexham councillor who says she has spent two years lobbying the UK and Welsh governments to secure additional learning needs funding for Wales received a rare round of applause at a scrutiny committee meeting after describing the Welsh Government's decision to limit that funding to £40 million as "an extremely bad decision" - and saying she was ready to go "head to head with the finance minister on figures."

The Lifelong Learning Scrutiny Committee voted last week to write urgently to the Welsh Government's finance and education ministers, copying all six Fflint Wrecsam members of the Senedd, to demand the full £332 million ALN consequential is passed to local authorities.

🏡 Investing in our communities, one improvement at a time.

These refurbished council garages in Acrefair North are looking fantastic following improvements funded through a decision by Cllr Paul Blackwell. The works include new garage doors, replacement gutters, and newly resurfaced tarmac forecourts, creating a smarter, more practical space for residents.

It's another great example of how local councillors can make a real difference by investing in the improvements that matter most to their communities.

Cllr Emma Holland met last week with pupils from Ysgol Bryn Alyn and Accessible Wrexham.

She was very pleased to know that pupils at Bryn Alyn have carried out an accessibility study at their school and have been exploring a number of initiatives to improve accessibilty, including placing signage on inappropriate parking.

Pupils have met with their school caretaker too explore which initatives could be implemented.

After seeing the great work taken on by pubils and Accessible Wrexham, Cllr Emma Holland along with our MP Andrew Rangers have praised the initative and encourage other schools to connect with Bryn Alyn and to undertake this initiative themselves.

As the County Councillor for Gwersyllt North Emma reported feeling very proud of the pupils and the school for being the first to consider and carry this out.

Last week Cllr Frank Hemmings Chirk North in his voulantry role at the Dementia Art Group supported a visit to Erddig at the invitation of the Trust.

Whilst some members enjoyed Art with a ranger, the trip gave others in the group the oportunity to explore the estate where they would normally not be able to.

Frank reports that those that explored the grounds loved the off road ride through the woods!

Labour MSs are calling on the Plaid Cymru Government to withdraw their budget.

This is not to play games, but to ensure our schools, councils and most importantly, children, get the support they need.

We’re not opposing more money to reduce waiting lists, for more free schools meals, or for childcare. What we’re opposing is children and schools paying the price for Plaid’s uncosted manifesto.

The Plaid Welsh Government is now in formal dispute with two teaching unions – this is unprecedented. ALN funding is a major factor in this dispute. Plaid must work in social partnership to resolve it.

Councils are clear - £40m is a drop in the ocean with it comes to the money they need for ALN. £40m between 22 local authorities is less than £2m.

This is about fighting for the best possible deal for our schools and children and young people with additional learning needs.

Welsh Labour will continue that fight.
