Following the support by the Councils Executive Board in July an engagement event will take place in Rhosllannerchrugog for local people to share their ideas and views on the proposals to revitalise Market Street in Rhos, this includes new street lighting, new road and pavement surfacing, plans for the refurbishment of the public toilets and improved signage on all entrances into the village.
Councillor David A Bithell, Chair of the Civic Leadership Group, said that work is progressing to draw up plans to share with the public on what these plans will look like, what we would like to do and how we can improve the local area.
Local councillors Fred Roberts, Paul Pemberton, Steve Jones and Geoff Foy have been working with Rhos Community Council, who funded the Placemaking Plan, carried out by Owen Davies Consulting.

" we ask that local people come to the drop in session on Wednesday 14th October between 12 and 2pm and a futher open event between 6pm and 7pm the same day. These will take place at the Hafod Club Rhos.
A new placemaking plan has been launched to revitalise Market Street in Rhos, creating a more attractive, connected, and welcoming village centre while celebrating the unique culture, heritage, and community identity of Rhos as a village and The Stiwt.
The ambitious plan aims to breathe new life into Market Street by improving the public environment, supporting local businesses, enhancing access, and creating spaces that reflect the history and character of the area. The report highlights the positives and the weaknesses.
The proposals focus on making Market Street a destination that residents, visitors, and future generations can enjoy — building on Rhos’ proud industrial heritage, community spirit, and cultural assets. This builds on improved public transport in the area, a new community garden in Rhos, and proposed developments at Ysgol ID Hooson to modernise the school. The plan also supports Wrexham Councils bid for City of Culture where Rhos has a proud history.
Key priorities within the plan include:
Revitalising Market Street
Improvements to Market Street will create a more vibrant and attractive town centre, with better public spaces, improved appearance, and an environment that encourages people to spend time, shop and connect.
Improving Access and Parking
The plan will explore ways to improve access into the town centre, making it easier for residents, visitors, and businesses to use Market Street, while considering parking needs and better movement through the area.
Better Signage and Walking Routes
Clearer signage and improved pedestrian routes will help people navigate Rhos more easily, linking key destinations including local businesses, community facilities, and cultural landmarks.
Stronger Civic Leadership
A new Civic Leadership Board will be established to help guide the future of Rhos, bringing together community representatives, businesses, and key partners to support long-term regeneration.
Improving Connectivity
The plan will look at strengthening connections between Market Street, surrounding neighbourhoods and key facilities, encouraging walking, cycling, and easier access throughout the town.
Better Facilities for Young People
Creating opportunities and improved facilities for young people is a central ambition, ensuring the future town centre is inclusive and provides positive spaces for the next generation.
Creating a Better Environment
Enhancing the quality of the public realm will be a major focus, with opportunities for greener spaces, improved streetscape, and a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming environment.
The placemaking plan recognises that Rhos’ future is built on its past. By bringing together heritage, culture and community ambition, the vision is to create a Market Street that reflects local pride while supporting economic growth and community wellbeing.
“Market Street has always been at the heart of Rhos. This plan is about protecting what makes our community special while creating a modern, vibrant, and sustainable village centre for the future.”
The plan covers the wards of Rhos-Johnstown- Pant and Ponciau.
