2021 figures from the DWP show 22% of children in the Wrexham County Borough are living in poverty. Over 1500 are below school age.
We have the ability to change this. Child poverty now costs the U.K. £38bn a year, yet the number of children in poverty continues to increase. It’s time to truly invest in our children’s futures. There is a better way.

(The £67bn is net cost and is taken from U.K. modelling completed by Karl Widequist and Georg Ardnt in 2020)

The Future Generations Commissioner and UBI Lab Cymru have written a joint-letter to the First Minister, asking for a ‘Care Leavers Plus’ basic income pilot. This will be a geographically-based Universal Basic Income (UBI) that includes children, the employed, the unemployed and pensioners, as well as care leavers.

This will allow the Welsh Government and the general public to understand how the policy would impact Wales if it were rolled out tomorrow. This is a great opportunity for Wales. Let’s not waste it! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
